    If they removed everything from vehicles that was "unnecessary" they would probably all look the same and it would be pretty boring. I think the side grills are eye catching and give the front a meaner look

    personal preference, I think the 2010 looks plain and blocky compared to the 2014

    Agreed but it's unusual for me to still see previous model of any car to still look good as the 2010 design. Must mean they have designed it nice and conservatively.
