    If you're listening to a playlist, park the truck shutting it off, then get back in and drive off, does the iPad and HU know to pick up where you left off and resume playing (like a traditional headunit would) without additional input to the ipad to 'resume' play?

    yup, mine always resumes what ever I was listening to. Also it turns off and on with the stereo.

    i have a 2006 with a aftermarket alpine radio with the alpine power pack amp, would it be possible to put a iPad mini in place of the radio and keep the amp?

    The easiest way for you to integrate it with your system would be to continue using your current alpine radio in connection with the iPad. You can do this by mounting the radio further back into your dash, so that it sits behind the iPad. Just plug the iPad into the USB input of that radio and enjoy!
