I try to. The rivers here have finally froze but up near the reservoirs are still good to fish I guess. Ill be heading out to one after finals next week if that's still true.

I mostly call it quits in November. Last year I fished saltwater in Florida for the month of February .The water was too cool for good Snook fishing where we were. Not much Luck, so this Feb I am going to leave the fly rod home. Winter time I twist up some flies for the next season. When we come home from Florida I start fishing freshwater in March when the ice clears.

Subbed! Only been fly fishing a few times but I really enjoyed it and will be stocking up on the necessary gear this winter. Can't wait!

I had planned on going out Friday but now I have to work. Maybe get out a little Saturday. I just picked up a cabelas CGR as my first glass rod. I mainly use my Helios rod which is super fast. Out of the 7 rods I have none were glass until now. Getting used to the glass may be more of a challenge than I think. We will see.

 Welcome! Post any questions you may have. Also remember that a $1000 rod isn't going to land you any bigger of a fish .

I am sure it will come quickly. I switched from a very poor and slow 9wt to a super sensitive and quick 5wt. It took about an hour of fishing before it felt decent and then a few trips before it felt like an extension of my arm.

I recently got back into it after almost a decade of not touching a fly rod. I forgot how much fun and addictive it is.

Quick question.. Im looking to start tying my own flies, and for a little extras Christmas present to myself, I want to pick up a fly tying kit to get started.

Anybody have any suggestions as to which kit to go with?

    Thanks

    I have this kit
    http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabe...=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=30028440&rid=20
    And also have this
    http://www.drslick.com/catalog/gift-sets/fly-tyer-gift-sets

I would recommend the dr slick set over the cabelas one, the vice in the cabelas one is nice but in the future I'm going to buy a nicer one

I agree with TPR. on this starter kit .I have been tying for fourty years. This looks to be a good one. As you get more into it you will want a better vise . Also look on youtube for Davie McPail .He is a great tyer & his videos are the best. You will learn good technique from him. Once you get into tying ,its like a whole new sport.

What pole did you get? Does anyone have a 0 or 1 weight? Thinking about picking one up sometime in the future. I have a 5 weight now but want to drop in size for some of the areas I fish.

Haha sometimes they are about the size of a sardine! But yeah, for some brookies. I really enjoy catching them and it would be nice to have a 7ft rod instead of a 9ft. I saw one guy had a custom 5ft 1wt made just for brookies.

I got a 2wt orvis access over the summer, it's my new favorite for streams and pond fishing. I haven't cast anything lighter being I haven't found a need for one.

Suggestions on a new 9' 5 wt 4 pc rod? Looking to spend 350-400 on a new rod and reel.

I plan on picking up an Orvis Clearwater outfit in those specs here shortly. They are a right around the 300$ mark.

I finally picked up some tying tools and a vise and tied my first fly yesterday. Nothing fancy but Im proud of myself

Just saw this thread for the first time! Sick!
I have a couple Orvis setups and I'm looking to add a superfine 2wt to the collection for small streams.
