Torques is a reference to Top Gear. Its what Clarkson says and its funny.

And all my numbers came from Wikipedia.

I'd go diesel... as long as I can get it re-tuned.

I have an Chevy 3500 Express with the Duramax and Gross Vehicle weight is right around 9000#... I'm averaging 16.5-18 mpg; on long trips it'll go up to 18-19.5. The only "performance" mod I have is a Bully Dog Triple GT tuner.

Im pretty sure the 4runner is rated higher with premium, that might explain those numbers.

It isn't what the added .6 liters gives you it is what the added 2 cylinders gives...

The numbers I pulled from Wikipedia explained the power differences between 91 and 87.

    IGR-FE (2nd Gen Taco):
    Output is 236 hp (176 kW) at 5200 rpm with 266 lb·ft (361 N·m) of torque at 4000 rpm on 87 octane,
    and 239 hp (178 kW) at 5200 rpm with 278 lb·ft (377 N·m) at 3700 rpm on 91 octane.

    IGR-FE Dual VVT (4-Runner):
An updated version of this engine features Dual VVT-i, increasing output to 254 hp (189 kW) and 270 lb·ft (366 N·m) on 87 octane
    and 285 hp (213 kW) and 289 lb·ft (392 N·m) on 91 octane.

    2GR-FSE (3rd Gen 3.5 - Rumored):
    The 2GR-FSE engine is rated at 309 PS (227 kW; 305 hp) at 6,400 RPM and 38.4 kg·m (377 N·m; 278 lb·ft) at 4,800 RPM.
    The 2GR-FSE in the Crown is rated at 315 PS (232 kW; 311 hp) and 38.4 kg·m (377 N·m; 278 lb·ft) at 4,800 RPM.
    The 2GR-FSE in the Mark X is rated at 318 PS (234 kW; 314 hp) and 38.7 kg·m (380 N·m; 280 lb·ft) at 4,800 RPM.

Sorta. It all works together. Otherwise we'd see 1.6 liter V8's. :)

its because cafe mpg standards are rising. Fleet mpg is suppose to meet 54.5mpg by 2025.

    http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2012/08/29/545-miles-per-gallon-for-all-cars-by-2025-not-exactly

that tacoma was suppose to be at 27 mpg in 2012.... they say those numbers are not really real world driving numbers though

The show is not open to the public until 17 January. As much as I dislike Detroit, I'll be there. I may be able to get some pictures if not too crowded around the Tacoma, which will probably not be the case!

Yes I know, still doesn't sound good as the V8 or badass V10 they use to have screaming at 19,000 rpm down the straightways

    coming soon!
I agree 100%. I've been saying this for years, I love my Tacoma but it seriously needs a small V8 and more power, dodge had a V8 in the Dakota back in the 90's so why can't Toyota do it. I love the size of the Tacoma and don't care much for the bulky full-size trucks but I'm at the point that I've decided if Toyota doesn't size up the Tacoma with a small V8 I will be trading up to the Tundra or the new F-150.

I think we can all almost 100% guarantee there will not be a v8 in a tacoma in the future. If anything you will start to see more and more full size trucks with more efficient v6's. As engine technology improves, smaller engines will put out more power and be more fuel efficient. The speculated 3.5L for the new tacoma will put out about the same amount of horse power as small v8.

I see a lot of similar angles between the two front ends for those who don't think it looks anything like a tundra.
