yeah I believe he modled this one after the hybrid. It doesn't fit perfectly though. But I'm pretty sure this was the first plate version he's made for a first gen so I'm happy to be his guinea pig lol.

Do you have manual hubs? From the year of your truck I would guess yes. Put an aussie locker in the front. Cheap and you can do it yourself. I just put one in and love it.

    No noise and awesome traction.

Not sure but I do. They let you completely disconnect the wheels from the axles. But I don't recall any clicky clicky even when the hubs r locked in 2wd

all this talk of lockers and tire size and gears is always a fun topic. Since I have the reputation among some people around here of being a douchebag know-it-all and I can't keep my mouth shut of course I need to weigh in. :)

Until I got this Tacoma I had never wheeled a truck on tires smaller than 35's. IMO the 37's are the perfect size tire for a truck that still gets driven on the road but wants to wheel hard. Bigger than that starts to suck on the road, smaller than that can make stuff more interesting off road. But, I've been amazed how well the Tacomas do on 33's. I have absolutely no desire (other than for looks) to go bigger than a 33 on my Tacoma. With a good suspension setup and a rear locker it will go more places than most people have any business going. If you need to get to those "other" places then it's a good time to talk bigger tires and SAS and crawl boxes etc. I've driven Tacomas with 35's and personally I don't think it made any difference compared to 33's in terms of making anything easier. I felt the same way with my Cruisers on 35's. When mine had 35's and other in the group had 33's it was all pretty even. When I went to 37's there was a noticeable advantage.

So I guess my point is, I you want to go bigger than 33's on a Tacoma you should go all the way to 37's. Just be prepared for the work involved to make them work.

Oh, and running the Rubicon in a Tacoma with open diffs would SUUUUUUCK. Even a locked Tacoma on 33's makes for a long day on that trail. Doable but challenging. Open diffs would mean lots of winching or taking straps. 33's are minimum tire size for that trail IMO.

    Look at build!
37's are definitely next for me, and dual cases!

For 35's and one of the toughest trails in the park and being a DD she didn't do too bad though!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6sDCZR7xeY

In the first 10 seconds of the video I spent about 25 minutes in line behind a locked front and rear Toyota pickup on 35's that finally got by after about 5 minutes of bumping over.. but after him was a locked rear Cherokee that spent about 10 minutes and finally backed out.. not sure what the difference was between mine and the pickup but I seemed to walk right thru it.

This is a floppy spot for a lot but again other than the bottom ledge went right up for the most part.

Anyhow that's about all ive done to mine lately..

New front driveshaft made and rock lights wired then went and camped/wheeled for 3 days!
