The dif between health care costs and a 15000$ truck should be obvious. A sick person could rack up millions with every little piece of gauze and q-tip costing 20$ or more. The company will not get their ROI so to speak especially if the insured is very old & sick and or near death. But a young person with more money than brains can can have their 15,000 truck replaced. It will cost them in the long run, their rates will go up substantialy;) and most likely never come down in their lifetime. (Comparative to a claim-less driver of the same demographic)

I suggest someone with a decent brain to money ratio should keep the salty truck for parts and buy another Tacoma. Remember, insurance companies aren't in this game to lose money. The opposite.

But WTF do i know I think I may have more money than brains aswell, cause I am a borderline cretin.:bananadead:

OP, please know I'm not a particular fan of insurance companies, but if they denied the claim because your actions were intentional, and I was a juror when you sued for damages, I'd land on their side.

Does the phrase 'pay to play' ring a bell?

In fact, I'd be second guessing my own integrity to even have the guts to file such a claim.

I would agree if he were out mudding or rock climbing but a flooded road, I would order the insurance company to do what they contracted to do. PAY.

Man it really is tough. Insurance is something you can't see feel or taste. But sure as hell better understand what you are signing and paying for. That's why u have agents. Health insurance is nothing like auto. Totally diff ball of wax. No one likes insurance until you need it. Well till you need it and you purchased the right coverages to protect you. There is no such thing as " full coverage" if you think so read your policy, understand what you are paying for. Stuff gets real when you need to file a claim.

You don't understand what you are paying for each month in auto premium. He is well with in his right to file a claim unless his intention was to total his truck. People make mistakes. Make poor choices. That is why they pay that high dollar amount for the insurance. If he does file they will pay and adjust his premium based on the risk of insuring him as a driver. Or, not renew his policy depending on his carrier. His flooded taco cost an insurance company pennies compared to the one time you end up bumping the person in front of you while changing the radio or reading sending that text and all 5 people claim injury. That is where it gets expensive. A vehicle claim is cheap, nothing compared to BI.

It's generally not a good idea to drive into water unless you know for sure how deep it is. Near SF Bay, heavy rains and high tides are never a good mix. Especially during "King Tides" and heavy rain. There are several King Tides over the next few days. Fortunately, no rain to go with them.

That said, OP if you live near the bay and your truck is flooded, there's a pretty good chance it's brackish water. I hate to say it but you're probably screwed. You would need to take the seats and carpets out and dry them thoroughly. Water up to the center console means some electronics are wet too-again, salt water isn't good for electronics. Even if you get everything inside dried out and working, salt water is corrosive and leaves deposits that will cause problems later on.

It's a tough lesson to learn. Hope it turns out OK for you.

I'm not sure you actually get to 'order' the insurance company to do anything.

Certainly you get to file a claim. It's their decision to pay or not.

Intentionally driving into water of unknown depth, and salt water at that, with the result of floating and having to swim away, seems more irresponsible than 'accident'.

It's not like the vehicle was parked and got flooded, or that he had no alternative. He drove there to show off.

What's the difference in that and mudding or crawling?
