I have a 09 Tacoma with a 2.7, sometime when I start it up it will run for a second then quit the only way I can restart it is to remove the positive batterie cable and reset something. This has happened 3 times in the last several months any ideas what it could be

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I'm hearing the Crank Position Sensor would be a good place to start but I could be wrong.

Are you always using the same key? Try a different one. Sounds stupid but had a similar issue with a vehicle and the transmitter in the key was going bad. Any codes coming up? Check engine or security light?

Have you put a scan tool on it to see if there is a pending code?

I don't think the 2.7 Liter models have an engine immobilizer at least in the USA. How about Canadia?

I know if you disconnect the 4.0 battery cable it will start then stall. But it will only do it once. Not sure if the 4 bangers do the same thing

I'd suggest cleaning the MAF sensor and swapping the fuel pump relay if you don't have it resolved yet.

    Reserected from the dead.
Try swapping out the fuel pump relay. Had something like that going on with my Tundra. If your gonna throw parts at it, throw cheap stuff first.

The OPs description leans me towards an electrical issue ??? Loose connector /connection? Frayed wire, Crossed wire, Etc. ????? It runs then stops suddenly then mysteriously runs fine .... battery almost dead ??? Alternator going bad /check charging (possible shorting bad diode)?

For sure not an immobilser issue because the truck would not start at all. It will crank but will not start. Definitely check for codes and if possible check the data list while starting to see if there is a sensor signal missing. You need a pretty good scan tool though.
