Changing out coil packs for a distributor

    2.7 swap for a 2.4
    i just swap my 2.7 for a 2.4 everything fit perfect except for the individual coil pack that go on the spark plugs, the coil packs came off the 2.7. The 2.4 came with plug wires and i was hoping the coil packs would fit the 2.4 but they didnt. So what should i do or should i install a distributor with the plug wire.

    p.s. the coil pack were connected right off the wireharness so i have no plug ins for a distributor.

    :confused:HELP me out pls.....

    Only thing I can think of is swapping the ECU from a 2.4. You need the right ignition for the engine.

    I am just making sure I have all the info before I give you a definitive answer.

    From what you said above, the 2.4 has a distributor on it?

    See thats screwing me up....I thought they were all coil for the 2000 year? My 2.7 was. :confused:

    As far as I know they were. There was a difference though. Some had two coils, one for two cylinders. They still utilized plug wires. The coil packs were on the front left of the motor. You can see about/aboot where they are on this picture.

    ben, the 2.4 came with those on the left front motor but i have no plug in from my wire harness to plug them in i can up load some pics to show you wat i mean if you want

    Pics are always helpfull. Do you have the hareness from the 2.4 also?

    And those would be where the plugs attach to.

    Also, Which of these stickers do you have? It should be located in the engine compartment close to the radiator or in the drivers side door jamb. I can't remember which.

    Ok, here is what I have found both good and bad news.

    Bad- The ECU's for the Cali emissions are different from the FED emission ECU's. The easy way to tell is the coil packs. One coil pack per plug indicates a Cali emissions (like your 3rz). The FED emissions have one coil pack per two spark plugs (like your 2rz).

    Good- The Cali ECU for the 3rz and 2rz seem to be interchangeable. But there is one exception. The 3rz ECU monitors the EGR temperature where as the 2rz ECU DOES NOT. This wil not matter as long as you used the 3rz EGR vavle.

    So what does this mean to you?

    I think you have an easy fix here.

    You can purchase the the individual coil packs for the 2rz. They
    $40 Standard Motor Products UF323 Ignition Coil
    will look similar to the 3rz. Install them and it should work with the exsisting 3rz harness.



    The pinouts of the Cali ECU's and the color codes of the wiring match. The difference between the 2rz and 3rz mechanically is the compression ratio.
