If it helps, just installed the clazzio seat covers and it does feel more comfortable with the additional cushion. I'm with you though, would expect more comfortable seats coming off the store.

So glad I found this post. I have been having the same problem for years and this was the solution. I am 5'11" and 196 lbs. The issue for me was the tilt of the seat, i felt like i was in a sports car which was fine except the fact the floorboard and telescoping steering wheel is too short to actually resemble the space in a sports car. The problem ends up being that where i am comfortable in the seat i can barely reach the wheel and it is up to high even though in the lowest position.

I feel that Toyota must have went for that seat positioning for a reason however it seems they did not think through the shorter leg space and steering wheel.

Anyway... 30 dollar fix to keep the best truck i ever owned!

My seats feel like my favorite chair in my living room. They will be even better once the Clazzio seat covers arrive!

2002 Regular cab base A/C fixed now.
Westin lights, Westin Light bar holder, New front bumper, Custom floor matts, Steering wheel cover, board in bed to keep groceries from rolling around, new radio, New flat bed cover.
I dont have this problem I do have an 2002 base with a bench seat so I have nothing to suggest. Perhaps adjust the lumbar? I do have a similar build 6'0 140ish so I will see what I can do to perhaps help.

One of the first things I changed on my '14 was the seats. For multiple reasons, but I did think that they were much less comfortable than the ones in my '07. I blame this on the addition of the seat-side airbags in the newer models. Got myself a pair of these and will be getting another pair for the rear seats in the near future.

if you ride in a european vehicle that has very good quality seats, you will realize that americans and japanese typically have no idea how to make quality seats. I absolutely love my 2015 TRD Sport...but hate the crappy seats. I feel a hard lump in my lower back with or without lumbar extended and the headrest in all Toyota's is designed for whiplash prevention, not proper spinal alignment and comfort.

A lot of you on here like your seats...but you also probably like too much salt on your food, too much sugar in your drinks, and aren't physically fit with focus on good spinal alignment. Not begin critical really, just observant of American's...and I am one.

Have to admit, I tossed the original seats in 1998 Tacoma and replaced with good quality european seats that support the body (NOT like a recliner) and that must have me spoiled. You don't know a really good steak until you have one...then you hate Roadhouse and Outback

    Yes
I swapped out all my seats to Corbeau buckets but a couple items should be mentioned :

    1. Your airbag system will be disabled completely if you do this. Not just warning lights but disabled, the system will not fire with faults from the seat sensors. Various folks have been working on a bypass for all of the seat position sensors but as of today I have still not seen a work around published.

    2. You have to give up the rear under seat storage and fabricate your own low profile rear seat brackets which includes welding in mounting locations for the front bolts and drilling out the floor for the rear bolts. The drivers rear seat will end up with one of the bolts above the gas tank so you have to drop the tank to install the seat.

What's up with all the bone heads on here asking if we test drove our trucks before we bought them? If we like 99% of the truck, test driving and not liking the seats doesn't make us stupid, like you are implying, it makes us more bodily aware and we are seeking solutions...um, like an intelligent person rather than making stupid stabs at people like I am doing....

Uhm.... I'm sure that there are a lot of people on here who would pay a lot more than $0 for a brand new pair of front seats.

to each his own...I have no use for them if I can find a suitable replacement..."if" being a key word because internet searches for seats turns up pretty much nothing but race car seats.

Not sure I understand how Katskins have more padding if it's just a leather wrap...unless the installer is adding extra padding to ensure Katskins don't feel like crap too. Guessing any quality seat installer is gonna know that OEM Tacoma seats are designed poorly.

It has been several months since my original post. I see a lot of complaints and a few ideas. With the amount of similar complaints I have to believe that we can come up with something. Seems like the best options so far are 1) Katskins and 2) raising the rear of the seat. Only problem with Katskins is that I don't really want to spent $2000 to find out there is no real improvement for me. Im gonna try raising the seat first and see if it helps. Keep the ideas coming and hopefully we can figure this out.

In what way are they uncomfortable? My only gripe was that the TRD seats squeezed me a little too much but I'm 6'1 250 and needless to say I don't blame the truck for that.

After putting on Wet Okole covers I'm 100% comfortable. Not saying you should go with the same brand but some nice cushy covers can make a pretty big difference

Same thing here...and those damn head rests. I find myself bending my neck forward so they aren't touching the back of my head. Ugh...

I wouldn't say the seats are awful, but they are the worst I've ever owned.
