    Hi all,

After a very long, exhaustive search, last night I purchased a 2006 Double Cab 4x4 SR5. This is my first truck but I've been a Toyota owner for 10 years. So I am very slowly getting used to things like 4WD, tonneau covers, trailer hitches and so on. I got this vehicle as the perfect solution to hauling lots of horse-related items such as hay, bedding and tack trunks and being able to tow a two-horse trailer while keeping the vehicle size to a minimum as I do live in a city. Plus I live in Michigan so solely having rear wheel drive in the winter was not appealing. I believe this Tacoma will give me the best of both worlds while having the extraordinary long life and reliability that I have personally experienced in my previous Toyota. Looking forward to enjoying the ride! :)

Kirsten, Welcome to TW! A Taco in Ford Country! Brave gal!
For your first mod, due to your actual intent to user your Taco as a truck, get a Relentless Tailgate reinforcement. You'll be glad.

Is this so that I don't accidentally bend or damage my tailgate while loading heavy items in and out of the truck bed?

Welcome to TW. Yes they are notoriously known to bend. Even my 2013 Tacoma showed early signs of bending already.

Here' my Relentless Tailgate reinforcement plate with the stock plastic over it:
