50 yards is outside the useful range of a handgun IMO, unless it's setup for that distance for hunting or something.

See, Cali seems awesome but y'alls laws on everything are strict. I'm pretty sure a quarter of the counties in TN don't even have emissions testing, for example.

But do you know why its illegal?

Springfield, Kimber and Baer. High dollar 1911s are the most enjoyable, but again.. CA limits what is possible. I'd love an Ed Brown one day, but if I ever spring for one over $3000 I might just send an existing 1911 out for customizing.

You're out of your mind crazy.

Shotguns are great, I just wouldn't say I have a romantic attachment to them like I do 1911s, or a sheer love for their epicness like Glocks.

Sure, you can fuck around all day with a handgun. But I'm talking defense wise.. if you have 50 yards between you and a person you're needing to shoot, you really should use a rifle or slug gun. 25 yards and closer is handgun territory, and that's if you practice at that range. A lot of people can't hit a human torso sized target at 10 yards.

I was hitting an 8"x10" target at ~25 yards with a 9mm, .380, 38, and .357 yesterday. Granted I was two handed, taking my time to aim. But I didn't think that it was that hard or that big of a feat.

Some of our laws are retarded, and some are good. I don't complain too much about our gun laws, as they are now anyway.

Handguns have to be drop tested in CA to be sold here legally, so manufacturers (on their own expense) submit I think like 10 handguns (identical in model and feature) to be tested. They don't get these guns back and they have to pay money for the testing to be done as well. Once they pass, they can be sold for a certain amount of time before needing to be retested. The big bitch is, that if you have a 1911 for example with a single sided thumb safety, and an identical model with an ambidextrous thumb safety, CA DOJ says that's 2 separate guns and they BOTH need to be submitted for testing. So if you calculate it all up at the end of the day, it's a pretty costly endeavor for manufacturers.

I'm not 100% on the above info, but that's my best recollection. I had a friend who was a widely known pistol smith who'd help perform these tests and he gave us a lot of insight on it, but I was maybe 13 years old at the time.

Wheel guns just work. I absolutely love semi auto handguns but i don't ever want to be without a revolver of some kind

I have a romantic feeling to several. My first rifle dad bought me. My first deer rifle. My first shotgun.

Ooooh. That makes sense then. That's crazy though, its not too ridiculous of a law i guess.

Revolvers huh? I never got into them at all. :anonymous:
How old and how simple? Flintlock old/simple?

I'm glad they're at the range practicing, even if they are horribly inaccurate. At some point, hopefully they'll improve, but for sure if they stayed home and needed to use their gun without practice it'd be a lot worse than not being practiced, even if you're still a bad shot.

Here's an article actually written by one of the guys I referred to above (pistolsmith). He worked with Doug McDougall, him and Mac were both good friends of our family.
