    To all you hunting enthusiasts:

    .270 win/wsm or .30-06?

In case you're wondering, I'm looking at the Weatherby Mark V series (for the left handed option) for the .270 and the Remmington CDL for .30-06

300 weatherby is what I recommend, but out of those the .30-06

Neither. They're both played out calipers in my opinion. There's newer, better rounds that can be had. Get the Mark V in .257 Wby Mag. Flattest shooting caliber you can get (besides wildcat cartridges) and it is more than enough to kill anything in North America. Any bigger caliber and it just becomes a dick measuring contest.

I wish Toyota would release the 2016 Tacoma with absolutely no changes form the 2015s. Just to piss people off.

I killed a lot of deer with my Remington .270. My personal favorite is my Savage .308. I've killed several deer from 170-270 yards with it.

Truth be told, my absolute favorite gun in the safe at the moment is my dad's Ruger .204

It is scary accurate. I can put 3 shots in the same hole at 100yds. And not just once, I'm talking about EVERY group. And it kills deer just as dead as our "big" guns (257Wby, 7mmWby, 7mmRem) with 32gr VMax. 40gr VMax would do even better. We were dropping hogs at 325yds with it like nothing.

    I'd party with them!

They may just facelift it again...

So far they've shown a portion of the front and the tailgate lol.

I thought about the 300 but I'd prefer to have a extra rounds in the chamber. .270 is also cheaper and easier to find. But why the .30-06 over the .270? The hitting power?

I understand the two calibers I'm considering are boring, but they're efficient. I'm not concerned with bragging rights or playing tummy sticks. Even though the .257 screams like a mother and has a very flat trajectory, I do like the extra bullet weight of the .270 especially for the Axis in west Texas. I think the discussion between a .257 & .270 boils down to personal preference; I will take a closer look at the .257 though.

Perhaps I should have put my original question in context: I'll be going to west Texas for deer, axis, and the other animals that can be found out there.

Good looking rifle. Too bad I'm left handed when it comes to shooting.

Ya I like the extra knock down, I have a weatherby vanguard. It holds 4? In the ribbon mag maybe 5. My main reason for the 300 was the places I hunt it's an average shot of 250 yards. The furthest shot I could take was 500

All said and done, it's all about the shot placement. Like I said, my dad's .204 with a 32gr VMax killed the shit out of my buck with a shot through the lungs. My .257 had plenty of knockdown power to take my aoudad a few years ago and they're just about the toughest animals you're going to come across in Texas. I've never really bought into the whole "the bigger the gun, the better". Where we hunt, I could possibly be taking shots up to 700 yards, therefore the flat trajectory was key.

7mm Rem Mags are boring. A 7mm Wby Mag with 139gr Spire Point on the other hand... :boner:
