I did not like the example of the ALG that I played with, but only because it was really heavy. They use full strength springs, so that trigger plus a lighter spring might be an interesting option if you could maintain reliability. I still like the Geissele SSA the best for ARs, even though it's not the lightest. Long light first stage then a clean break that is completely predictable. No adjustment screws to ever loosen or fail.

I've never seen an aftermarket charging handle in a Government rifle in ten years of Active duty. I have seen a couple with worn latch springs, but they still worked. Never seen one broken. Well, unless you count the one the dude ran over with the M1. Go put on a full kit and carry that rifle around all day for about six months. You won't want that big charging handle anymore. They get caught on everything. That said, my medium range AR has a Raptor charging handle, and it's been fine for 5000+ rounds.

Aftermarket stuff on GI weapons is a no no. The parts on the rifles need to be interchangeable with each other.

A friend of mine who's an Airborne Ranger told me he's allowed to run optics of his choosing, though.

Do you mind, can I ask what that set you back? I just got 1250 rounds of Freedom 115gr for a little over $.21/rd with free shipping. Have you had a chance to try any of it yet...how did it work? Any failures?

Don't mind at all. I got it from MidwayUSA; they were running a sale where it was something like $11 for a box of 50 or $200 for 1000 rounds. I had a coupon from an earlier purchase for $20 off plus free shipping when you spent over $100, so it only ended up costing me $186 for the 1000 rounds (or 18.6 cents per round if you're bad at math like me).
I took two boxes out to the 'range' (the local sand pit) today and ran a few mags each through my G19, my 5906, and my Shield with zero issues. Not sure what kind of velocity they're putting out, but everything cycled and ejected reliably and accuracy was on par with the American Eagle I usually shoot. I noticed that my 5906 didn't spit the empties as far as it does with Federal or Remington UMC's, but I also just replaced the recoil spring in that, which may have had something to do with the new lower distance. I didn't bring anything name-brand with me so I couldn't do a comparison. :notsure:

I went through two boxes the other day with my G26. No failures but the empties did seem like they were hitting me on the top of my head every so often...

Also I found an inverted primer in my shipment:

That is a great price, not seen 9mm that low in a long time. And it sounds like they worked OK...will have to give them a try. I have not shot any 124 gr through my G26 yet.

If it hadn't been for my coupon they would have been 20.6 cents per round, but definitely a good price. Not sure if MidwayUSA is still running that same sale or not, but I'd give Aguila a hesitant 'thumbs up' a decent discount brand based on the mere 100 rounds I've run. Can't be sure without shooting some more off, obviously, but so far so good. Plus from what I've read that the Aguila brass reloads well, which I'm looking to get into over the winter.

Not sure about a G26, but my G19 has never had any trouble cycling the 124gr. Neither have my S&W Shield or my 5906. I just like to train with the 124gr stuff when I can because I use 124gr +P Gold Dots in my carry guns (though I have been known to carry the 124gr Federal Hydra Shok too)
Training with 124gr probably doesn't make any real world difference vs training with 115gr stuff, just a personal quirk. :notsure:
