In looking at my 2007.... I don't know where they'd put a retainer clip that's close to the spring pad/ubolts. They'd have to drill a hole into the overload spring. That can't be good.

It depends..... who manufacturered the springs? Do they 'assume' its weak springs? Or would the spring manufacturer claim its Toyota's fault.
If its a manufacturer defect, I would think Toyota will probably seek a full replacement. Afterall.....if they put a bandaid on it, it puts Toyota at fault for future issues and relinquishes the manufacturer of fault. Did that make sense?

These springs have had problems from the beginning. Sagging springs which gave birth to the TSB springs. And then, a few years later..... a yellow 'load capability' sticker came out for some folks. So...who knows. I'm sure they're negotiating a fix with the manufacturer. I don't believe its a Toyota design problem.

I want to believe this is the way Tototasan will roll on this issue. The three pack is Tonka toy suspension and they know it. You shouldn't have to spend close to 30 grand on a truck only to have to pry the leaves apart at 20K to put innertubing in there to stop the annoying squeaking. Then before 50 K, have them flat, bottoming out, or breaking. It's cheap shit, and ridiculous. Aftermarket spring companies have to love Toyota.

Can you post pictures of your "fixed" 4 leaf replacement and the part numbers for the leafs.

I have a 2010 with a TSB replaced 4 leaf replacement both a local dealer and a call to Toyota Customer Experience Center (phone number is on the notice that was mailed) told me that the 4 leaf is not "fixed" and will have "what ever fix Toyota comes up with".

Now you probably have newer leafs that were made for the years not part of the recall, but the part numbers would help as others may also have had them replaced with "fixed" leafs but not know this.

Sitting at the dealership now waiting for them to do a smog inspection. The rumor here is that the recalled springs are for trucks built in Fremont CA and they will be replaced with "upgraded" springs. It may have been a problem with one specific supplier.

The dealer I get my parts from told me it would be 4 leafs for everyone pretty much. Still waiting to get a second letter indicating that's the actual deal before I get too excited. It would be nice if I could send a copy of my general spring invoice to Toyota and get reimbursed for those too. One of my rears snapped a year and a half ago and I replaced them with General Spring 3 leaf packs. Which were nice at first but suck just as much as the originals now. If I can get reimbursed for those I would get some 884's for the front to go with the 5100's I just bought.

This makes sense, since I highly doubt Toyota makes these in-house. New springs with clips for everyone on the original spring's supplier dime; that way Toyota doesn't lose money or get sued later or get bad publicity about a band-aid fix.

For those of us who bought used Tacomas - do we just contact a local dealership and ask them the procedure for getting this fixed?

I believe you have three options
    1. Contact local dealer.
    2. Call toyota 1-888-270-9371 (number on the recall letter for questions)
    3. Go to www.toyota.com/ownersupdate and use the 17 digit VIN to input new ownership / contact information

I got my first letter Dec 1st! Still waiting for the second one! I had the TSB 4 leaf pack done on my truck shortly after I bought it. Still had trouble bottoming out with certain loads so I finally installed a Toytec AAL. Haven't had any problems since but I'd be happy to get a better set of leafs and just reinstall the AAL!

I believe as long as the vehicle is registered to you the letter will come automatically if your vehicle qualifies.

Sitting at the dealership in Akron, Ohio and the service manager just said the leaf recall will be a four leaf pack replacement. Said Toyota wants to finish some important airbag recall first before replacing the leafs.

So if it is indeed a 4 leaf pack as the protocol, should I remove my AAL? Was gonna replace it, I got a box of Icons 3 pack AAL and 2.5” Remote Resi shocks in box waiting to install later this month.

Hello new member here and 1st post. I also received a letter last month for recall for my 2010 Tacoma. 2 months prior the drives side middle spring broke in half managed to jump the front mounting point and was sliding front to back when hitting a bump. Bought the truck with only 10,000 miles on it 1yr ago now has 18,000. I have extended warranty called and they tried to say I was at fault..by either towing a boat..camper..trailer. Had the truck in my garage on the lift and it was very easy to spot yet when I had reported a noise to the dealership coming from underneath they found nothing. In the end dealership went to bat for me with Toyota and they replaced just the "1" spring..when I asked why not 2 they said the other one wasn't broken. Dealership charged Toyota 785.00 to replace 1 spring. If anyone is interested I can post what a defective/clearly rotted spring looks like while still on the vehicle.
