Well, almost...according to the thread, the following was done:

325,291 Replaced clutch, pressure plate, TOB and resurface flywheel.

They just don't make clutches like they used to...

I've got 29k on my 2013 6MT and I haven't had any issues with the gearbox or clutch. It's a bit obnoxious to drive in heavy traffic but otherwise it's a great setup.

The 6-speeds that had the LUK throw out bearing were the problem. The AISIN bearings are good..I had mine replaced .There is a TSB for this. Also the squeaking clutch pedal was redone.

Is there a way to tell which one you have, without disassembling anything?

No. But the problem was most common on the first few years of FJ Cruisers and 2nd Gen Tacomas. Since your's is a 2010 you're probably fine...

Correct, clutch and TOB replaced at 325k, with no TOB chirp. New TOB has just started chirping at 378k miles...crap.

I'm curious if they replaced your original with an aisin. I think you mentioned that your original was the LUK. So far it appears that the chirp follows the aisin clutch-aisin matched throwout bearing. I personally have a 2008 with the aisin combo that's chirped as long as I can remember with 110,000 miles, that I currently installed a custom stiffer spring in the clutch slave cylinder which eliminated the chirp 100% with the original clutch and throwout bearing. I personally don't think it's a throwout problem at all just not enough pressure on the pressure plate fingers-mis-aligned fingers. That's why I'm curious about your situation since the LUK pressure plate finger setup is different.

My dad is a die-hard explorer and taught me a lot about off-roading in his domestic 1970's 4 speed manual trucks. The 6 speed is a decadent luxury in 4-LO.

If it's too steep put the thing in 4 low. I know there will be a s@#$ storm about it but it won't damage a thing. Did it with my 97 do it with my 11 the gear is plenty strong other wise you would hear people crying about broken gears. The main reason I bought mine with the tow package was to tow not to impress any one. Toyota is not the only one with high ratio reverse and my 5 spd was geared just as high.

Any details on the custom slave cylinder spring? Please post what you did.

Bought my '06 6 spd in Jan '13 with 47k on her. After logging in to Toyota I found in the service records this was done 6 months prior to me buying it. Why no clue. Now have 70k on her and no issues. Shifts fine, no chirping, etc. In the 2 yrs I've driven it twice I experienced the creaking of the clutch rod, both times on hot days after truck sat in sun at work. Last yr & again this yr. All I did was reach under and turn the clutch rod a bit and creak went away. At 1st had slight grind going into 3rd, at 50k I switched from factory dino gear oil (never had been changed) to Royal Purple synthetic, no more grind and a lot smoother shifting. Most times I don't use all gears while driving back & forth to work. 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th. Every now and then I'll run thru all 6. Mileage, I average about 18~19 in summer, best tank 21.5 mpgs. I'm happy with her. Offroad haven't had any issues.

To give you more information about the spring the original spring utilized .050" wire. I had some springs made identical in shape and size but utilizing different wire sizes. I tried .055" wire which wasn't enough and currently have one that is .0625" wire with no chirp present. On a side note just before installing my current spring I purchased the updated clutch slave cylinder form Toyota to see what changes they made to it. There current slave has a spring with .059" wire and the spring is about a 1/4" longer. The pushrod is also .080" longer and it has a different radius ground on it where it contacts the release bearing fork. The reason you have to have springs custom made is on one end the diameter is reduced to snap on the piston in the slave. The reason I suspect the clutch pressure plate finger heights as the problem is, if you remove the slave and run the vehicle the bearing will spin continuously with no chirp. It isn't until you start applying pressure on the fork that the chirp starts and of course with enough pressure the chirp stops.

^^ I believe there is. There is a thin steel cover over the slave cylinder that can be unbolted allowing you to see a small part of the pressure plate, clutch fork and throwout bearing. Aisin has been inscribing their pressure plates near the edge of the pressure plate with "Aisin". Small mirrors and good lighting are your friends here. Its been a while since I have done this but it seems to me I could see that logo on mine but the pressure plate has to be rotated to the right spot and that can be a bit tricky.

My 2011 4WD DCSB six-speed has been good to me.

Just curious - on my 5-speed - when I am cruising at 55, the tach says exactly 2k RPMs. I would be curious to know what the RPMs are for a 6-speed at that speed. I would appreciate if someone happens to know.

55 MPH = 88.5 KPH, so with stock gearing you'd be about 2100 RPM in 6th, give or take a few.
