    Any electricians in here?
Adding a light switch on the wall to switch an outlet in the closet. Going to tie both into the existing outlet in the hall.
Pic shows existing outlet and a sticky note on the wall where the switch will be.

Can I run the wires down behind the baseboards and back up the wall where the switch will be around the 2x4s? Or do I have to somehow drill through the 2x4s in the wall to get a straighter shot? What are the codes for this?

Assuming you are adding a light to the closet consider adding a motion detector switch in the closet that triggers power to the outlet in the closet. I had an electrician wire the motion sensor in the closet to a light in the ceiling. When you open the closet door the light comes on. Works great!

Oh and I don't know code at all but I don't think you can run wires behind the base board.

Thoughts on getting the wires where I want them without removing drywall?

If you have an attic or crawl space above you can run wire up and over. You'll still have a double stack of 2x4s to drill through on top.

Otherwise you'll have to cut into the wall.

Maybe relocate the switch to the other side of the stud, more centered in the wall. Call it a day.

Have to get power to the closet too.
Basement below but would have to drill through the footer and floor to get there. Above is a bathroom with tile floor.

Easiest is at that point is just cut into the wall. Use a sharp knife, make your cuts angled slightly so the piece fits back in without falling through, just a little mud and some paint, really wont show if your cuts are clean.

If you can make the cut inside the closet, even better. You just need enough room to slip a drill bit in there and drill the stud. There may be two in there with the room separation.

Hey all! Currently living near Seattle, but I grew up in Monument, CO. I'm currently interviewing for a new job in Ft Collins, and hopefully will be moving back home in the next few months. Just wanted to to introduce myself!

Driving a 2014 Off-Road DCSB. Not much done to it yet, but have a cornucopia of parts on the way over the next few weeks!

Enough to make it a lot of fun!
Code states that the wire needs to be protected from physical damage. Put the we ire behind the baseboards could put the wire in harms way, for foot traffic and nails.

You best bet is to go to the attic and drilling holes in the 2x4s headers and then fishing the wires down. The remodel boxes will be the easy part but depending on what kin of box is in place for the existing box could be a little tricky. Make sure when you fish the wire down the wall, that you staple the wire about 4-6 inches from you holes to secure the wire in place to meet code also.

Not yet but pretty soon. Have to start with fab work first. Bed cage and tire carrier, boxing the frame, remove spare tire crossmember and add supports. Ect....

I'd send it through the floor personally.

Cutting into my bedsides this week for my high clearance install. I'm thinking angle grinder initially then clean up with dremel. I may be overthinking it and just go angle grinder one and done
