Mounting a safe in my double cab

Hey all. I ordered a slim wall safe to mount behind te rear seat of my double cab. I'm looking for a place to lock up valuables, the wife's meds, etc when leaving the truck unattended in parking lots, trail heads, camp spots etc. I don't need quick access to it and don't want to lose access to my centre console so this seems like a good solution.

Suggestions or comments welcome. I will post pics when it arrives and I get it installed.

Those safes come with a key for when the batteries die. Peel the "stack-on" emblem off and there's a cylinder lock underneath.

I installed a console vault in my 15 DCSB and really like it. You lose space but it's nice to secure your stuff and have quick access to it. Little on the pricey side too at $275ish but worth it imho.

That's exactly it. I got the one with a combo lock. You can also get it with a key if you like. Works really well.

 

Like I said. Don't want a console vault. I see their value if you need a handgun within reach if that's what you're into, but anyone else have experience with other safes like the one I mentioned? More for safe storage of valuables in an unoccupied vehicle kind-a-thing.

 

I drilled a couple new holes and mounted my new stack-on wall safe behind the rear seat in my DCLB.

Intended use for laptops, medication, secure storage etc. I drilled 2 new holes in the back of the safe so I could mount it to the pre-existing nuts on the truck and have it sitting flush on the bottom. It opens enough to get about 2.5" clearance in the middle and more like 4.5" on either side of the locking mechanism. If the safe can hold it, I can manage to get it in there. I ran cable through two pre-esisting holes on the lower back side of the safe and looped it through metal supports on the truck. It was probably unnecessary but why not. It is not an unbreakable safe but will definitely defeat any smash and grab arseholes.

I'm now going to be a little more comfortable leaving my truck behind while on extended hikes in remote areas, and just about anywhere 2 leggers with low morals can be found, without having to carry my wife's medication and other valuables with me. Part of extended road trips means bringing a lot of very important stuff with you that you probably don't need at the time, but may need in the future or in an emergency. I think this safe makes my little camper rig a little more trip capable now and it was 50 bucks well spent.

Sorry the pics are wonky. You can also see I mounted some transparent helicopter tape to the back and top edge to avoid any metal on metal rubbing/rusting.

 

I had something like this in my 08 DC except I bolted it to the seat back. It was there to store a pistol for times I couldn't carry.
The box came from Goodwill, some foam padding from the fabric store and a combination cam lock from the company I worked for.

I still have the box but it won't work in my access cab.

It was considerably cheaper than console vault brand. I used a code for a 15% discount (LD2012). It seems to be exactly the same construction as the CV brand and I got a 4 number lock without additional cost. There was shipping cost.

It took about 20 mins to install. I believe that there is a 5-10% loss of volume, but as I have almost nothing but a few maps in the console it is not an issue.

 

That's a good looking product. I bet you can't fit a laptop in it though!
