Tried that too. They have to do the work so they wont let you swap them without the truck there. Try calling your service writer to explain yhe situation and see if he will make an exception. If not then just drop the bumper and drive there carefully. I live close to my dealer too so that really helps

 

Need to get my replaced, the outside is starting to look like shit anyways so new lights will freshen things up.

 

So I went to the stealership today and asked them about the issue under the extended warranty. Mind you I went in there wanting new head lights. The lady that helped me was aware of the issue and at first tried to tell me that it wouldn't work cause I didn't have the extended warranty!! Then I said according to the previous posted document that doesn't matter and I would still be covered. She was blown away and called a service tech that also is aware of the issue have her my vin which I checked prior that I was covered. He came out and looked at them. First he said that since the bulbs had not exploded that the warranty would not cover it. Then he said well let me talk to my boss. He came back and said ya we will honor them under the warranty however it would be 2 weeks before they came in. Ok I was fine with that. He came baq and told me that I was lucky that they had some in stock (sweetness) both the chrome and smoke chrome!! He was like which ones you want!!! Hard to believe I had a choice so I went with the smoked chrome ones which look bad ass one a white tacoma. Waited 1.5 hrs and they were installed even got a free wash. Shitty job though but it was all free .

Thanks to the OP for the heads up as a new set of lights from the stealerhip would have been about a grand!!

Also the service lady would give me a heads up when they have a fix for the lead spring recall once they pull there heads out of there a$@!!!

 

So the Everett Toyota dealer kicks ass. They said they couldn't do it because of my ARB bumper.... But they just gave me the warranty lights and said if they need the old ones.... They will call me. Best case.... I now have a spare set of headlights.

 

What kind of mileage do you guys have on your trucks? I have 125k on my 2010. Would there be an issue with that at my local dealer?

 

Make sure the ones they installed are the actual TSB lights with the glass lens now. Its pretty hard to believe they offered you a choice amd had them in stock. These are usually a "order to vin" item. Just double check. The DRL lens will look noticeable different than original

Wow! They are in trouble lol. Dealer has to send back old lights to get warranty credit for them. Now they take the loss at your expense. Nice come up!

 

No. This is an unlimited mileage warranty enhancement.

The new lenses r the smoked ones; they r a clear lense where the DTRL bulbs are. I noticed this morning that the DTRL don't come on when the head lights are turned on; as I didn't notice that yesterday when I left? Any possible issues that you can think of that could be an issue? I will have to check the connections once I return to the office as I'm out in the field.

 

So they look like the second picture then right? Thats a smoked shroud with updated glass drl lens.

The DRLs always turn off when the headlights come on. Thats how they work. They should be on anytime your in drive with the parking break off and they will stay on with your parking lights then turn off with your headlights

Those would be the ones that they installed for me. Thanks for looking out; as I was hoping that they didnt put the same styled ones back on.

Thank you for steering me in the right direction. Had headlights replaced by dealer without any problems.

 

I have a 2009. I just noticed that both of my lenses have melted and broken. The truck is no longer under warranty, so unless they issue a recall, fixing this will be on my tab.

I love tacomas. I waited for years to get one, and all of these problems are disappointing. I am disgusted with Toyota to put it mildly.

I didn't read this whole thread, but will later and I hope there is a fix that I can do myself that won't cost a fortune.

Applicability
The headlamp assembly is covered by Toyota’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty
for 3 years or 36,000 miles (whichever occurs first). However, Toyota is
announcing a Warranty Enhancement Program to cover the replacement of the
headlamp assemblies if the inner daytime running light/turn signal has become
distorted or bubbled in appearance.
Primary Coverage offers the warranty enhancement until November 30, 2015,
with no mileage limitation.
