There will be a sale thread for the short bed version tonight.

The snow finally melted, so as soon as I finish my turkey sandwich, I'm washing the truck, and taking installation pictures.

Here is the short but hopefully helpful write up I did. All in all install probably took me 2 hours because I was screwing around with other things and being meticulous. I didn't want to tear anything up and I took my time for the most part. Literally the longest part is removing the foam tape backing (total bitch to do)

ALTERNATIVELY: When you get to it, you could just leave the backing on the tape and simply utilize it as a cushion only. Also KB Voodoo posted a pic of his intended taping method on page 12, so check that out as well.

The first thing you need to do is remove the bed tie down rails. To do that you just remove 4 bolts using the torx bit KB Voodoo provides. Pretty straight forward. So far should look like this:

Next you need to remove the OEM plastic bed rails. There are a total of 2 readily accessible plastic pins for each rail, one near the tailgate and one near the cab. The one near the tailgate is really easy to break. I was only able to salvage one of them, and broke the other one. The ones near the cab are easier to preserve, just slide the tip of a flat headscrewdriver in between the two parts of the clip and gently pry to release. The pictures below show these 2 pins/clips.

Now it is time to pull the plastic caps off. I started from the cab and worked my way to the tailgate in pulling up the cap. Just take your time and pull up as close as possible to the next set of clips underneath to prevent bending the plastic up. Also be careful, as I pulled very hard on my second rail and warped the bed sheet metal slightly (though when you bolt the new KB Voodoo cap on it fixes this). You can see the warping in my pic below. (EDIT: I actually think my bedside was a little warped due to rubbing alongside a concrete pole in a tight apartment complex entrance a while back, not from me pulling up on it, but just be careful)

I placed a towel under the rail to prevent it from slapping down on the sheet metal as I worked my way down.

After I removed my first rail I noticed quite a few abrasion areas underneath. Here is a pic of one of the worst spots I just touched up with color match paint.

And finally before we get to putting the new metal cap on, you will need to remove these 2 x M10 bolts on either side of the bed. I have a loop piece on them that came with the OEM cargo net, so don’t worry if you are wondering WTF that metal loop is and why you don’t have one lol.

Now it is time to add the provided foam tape gasket. Now I didn’t really ask KB Voodoo on how to do this so his method may be better but I just sort of cut the foam tape up and applied liberally. You will notice a lackof tape in the area closer to the tailgate end of the bed rail, this was a trial and error thing I picked up on, that this area of the rail doesn’t make contact with the bed so no point in wasting tape there. Some tape areas made full contact and others didn't so I could have done it wrong...KB Voodoo can chime in on that.

I don’t have pics of me putting the rail on. But once you remove all the foam tape backing, (literally the hardest part of the whole install) it is time to carefully set the metal cap on the bed. I sat inside the bed and angled the rail so I could line up the tie down rail holes with the metal cap so that the foam tape didn’t start sticking prematurely (it gets screwed up easily if the tape sticks before you want it to and you try to reset it). The holes may not line up 100% because you basically have 4 layers of holes to line up (tie down rail + KB Voodoo metal cap + sheet meta + bedplasticl). As long as you line everything up horizontally you are good. I had to sit on the top of the bedside to get the holes to line up perfectly vertically so I could bolt everything up.

    Finished product:

Does the foam tape have adhesive on both sides?

Foam tape is double sided. Yes you could stick it directly to the rail. it might be easier to do that in making sure your not applying tape to areas where contact won't even be made (especially since the bedside is riddled with holes for the stock cap to clip in to). But like I found even some areas you think there'd be contact, there really isn't (like the spot I pointed out towards the tailgate end).

DoorDing are you referring to applying the tape and leaving one side with the paper liner and just using it as a cushion? That would work fine I'm sure, Id imagine if it rained pretty heavy all that paper/liner would turn to pulp, but I could be wrong I'm not sure if that stuff is water resistant. I figured I'd mineswell just tape it all down.

I saved 3/4 clips just using a screwdriver so pretty happy overall. I have some universal clips around here somewhere that I'll replace the busted one with. A removal tool would be a good investment though....I've had to remove plastic clips a number of times.

Either way does the same trick. Leaving the liner on means you don't have to mess with foam tape getting stuck while your trying to align everything. When you bolt everything up the tape tends to migrate a bit anyways just because of the way the bed is.

It does, but removing the backing is up to the individual.

    Excellent write up JdevTac!!!

This is how I intended the tape to be put on, and I supply it in pre-cut lengths.

But as long as the tape is somewhere between the rail cap and the truck, you're good to go.

Thanks! I am one of those people that likes to see what I will be getting in to before I give it a go lol, so figured at least my half-assed writeup would be helpful.
