Tomorrow I am going to do a front brake job on my 2009 Prerunner Sport. I have a bendpak scissor lift but have not used it on the truck yet. My question is for anyone who has one or another scissor lift where is the balance point? Truck is totally stock and I can find no weights to calculate it from, like I did with my other vehicles. Thanks all and Merry Christmas!

    Soon to come
First off what is the weight rating on the lift? Can it lift the truck without over loading the lift?

And to set it drive the truck all the way on the pads till the bumbs in the front stop you that set you arms as far apart as you can on the frame. As in as far forward and backward on the level part of the frame. Shoulf be stlightly behind the front tire and forward on the spring perches in the rear

geekhouse23 - Lift runs about $1900 with three pad heights, its a Bendpak MD-6XP.

05taco2.7 - Load rating on the lift is 6000lb and has no trouble lift vehicles at or near its load rating. The ramps you see are not attached to the lift. I just use those for my CRX because it is to low to drive over the lift. When I lift my Audi S4 or other vehicles with at least 4.5 in of ground clearance I do not use the ramps.

I think I may have found it by dumb luck. Posted in another section. Does not provide year but should be close.

That's interesting. I'm still old school heavy duty floor jack and stands.

You won't be able to lift the Taco very much without the roof hitting your ceiling.. But yeah one right in front of the rear tire on the frame and one right behind the front tire. Lift the truck tires a few inches off the ground and shake the truck a little to make sure its stable before going any higher

Is there an emergency 'chock' anywhere on that thing?? Jesus, if the hydraulics failed and you're standing underneath it...DEAD.

i am sure there is some type of locking mechanism, like all bigger lifts have.

i dont think they would be even allowed to sell those without one.

Yes they do have a locking mechanism and do work fine for a tacoma. I've used one quite a bit on a first generation tacoma, positioned on the frame by the cab mounts behind the front wheel well and at the front of the bed area worked fine for an access cab truck.

Funny how those who do not own or who have never used one come in with how it wont work. As the photos show you can safely lift a Tacoma with one. My ceilings are 10.5 feet tall so as long as my garage door is partially closed I can go as high as I need.

They are very safe and stable. Mine has 3 locking points along the way, other brands have more.

The key number I was looking for was the center of gravity of the vehicle, basically the balance point. Per the other post it is 56.9 inches from the center of the front wheel. This is important to getting the vehicle balanced on the lift.

I snap a shot of it in the air during the front brake job.

Nice P Car in that shot.

like said above, what i always do one the vehicle is on the lift, lift it like 2 inches, and shake the vehicle. i honestly shake it pretty hard, if it dont move, were good. :)
are you able to work on the under carrage with that lift?
    like removing a transmission?

They're not great for doing much work from underneath the vehicle, at least the one I used to use wasn't. It can be done somewhat but it's easier to put it up on stands so you can get under there without the lift being in the way, or even better find someone with a 2 or 4 post lift.

That is a good approach. I still do it, even knowing the center point measurement. Just to make sure!

Kevin, how stable it it laterally? I doesn't seem like much of a footing, but it still does the job I see.
