Use http://www.edmunds.com to check and see if it is a good deal. You can input what options the vehicle has. Also you can see what your vehicle is worth. If you are trading at a dealer. The dealer will probably offer below wholesale for your trade. For the new vehicle you want try and negotiate closer to the wholesale/invoice price. You have to remember the dealer paid less than wholesale for the 06. Just because a price sounds resonable to you, doesn't mean it is a good deal. Always do your homework & print off the value of the vehicles to take with you to the dealer, so you have it to negotiate from. Instead of trying to remember what it was worth.

    Good luck!

That was a great deal! Congrats on your purchase. You will be very happy with the truck. I am with mine. 84,000 miles and not a single problem.

If you are looking to add a K&N filter. A friend told me of a good site.
http://www.4filters.com/ Theyhad the best deals at one time. This is where I got mine. When buying upgrades use the internet to shop around for the best deals.

    Happy driving,

I don't mind at all. I was really close to buying the truck from Durham, guess I made the right choice. I bought the truck from Hampton Toyota in Lafayette, LA. The only issue I had, so far, was they tried to include the cost of the extended warranty in the cost of the truck without first asking me if I wanted an extended warranty. I had ran the numbers on what I was going to pay before I went to the dealership and when they didn't match up I made sure they fixed it. I plan on getting the warranty from Troy, a guy I found on another thread. Also, I haven't had to deal with any local service departments so I can't comment there. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Some dealers have been selling junk extended warranties from aftermarket companies. These extended warranties are pretty much useless & cost about the same. If you buy an extended warranty(which I never do, but it may be right for you), make sure it is a manufacturers extended warranty only. I wouldn't pay over $1000 for an extended warranty. Your vehicle is well built. We are talking Toyota's & not Kia's. An extended warranty might be better for a vehicle that has a bad track record.

Quote from syndicated talkshow host Clark Howard:
Consumer Reports' annual auto issue is out and Clark is giddy with excitement. The April '08 issue definitively says that extended warranties aren't worth the investment. http://clarkhoward.com/shownotes/category/5/71/195/

    Good luck,
    Sean

Just because you bought your vehicle at one dealer doesn't mean you have to use there service dept. I have used 3 or 4 different Toyota dealer service dept with my truck. They never treated badly because I didn't buy from them. I actually use Atlanta Toyota, because they are the cheapest around. And are always friendly & helpful. I suggest when you need an oil change, try different dealers in your area. You should be able to get a good feel about one and they can become your service dept. You can lodge complaints about a certain dealer to Toyota. They are big on surveys and wanting to know about the dealerships. They will straighten things out. http://www.toyota.com/

That would be one that I would trust, if I bought extended warranties. But that was my main reason for buying Toyota. But it is always your desicion & only you can make that judgement call on, if an extended is right for you.

Glad to see you are doing your homework. It pays big dividends in the end.
    Congrats again,
    Sean

an 8 year 120k mile warranty from toyota is going to cost you more than that.

and on a side note- a good deal is a state of mind- should have little to do with money. did you purchase a vehicle that works well for you? do you like it? awesome! you got a GREAT deal!

The one that Sprouse found was $880 & it was a Toyota manufacturer warranty. Also when it comes to years(in a warranty), that probably will not be in the picture for most drivers. I do not know anyone(personally) that would not reach 120,000 miles before 8 years. Most of my friends hit that in 3 or 4. For a vehicle that is the primary transportation.

True a good deal can be a state of mind. But also for someone that works hard for their money. A good deal is getting the lowest price possible. Car dealers are all about how much money they can get out of you. It is fine for them to make money. Everyone should make money! That is what makes this country so great! Opportunities for everyone. But the problem I have with dealers is the underhanded practices they use to screw people out of their money. I few friends "were" car salesmen, & they told me of some of the shitty things that some of the sales people do to screw over a customer. And the management at the dealer had no problem with it. So I try an pass on any helpful advice I can give someone when buying a car. So they hopefully do not get screwed over.

    Just my two cents,
    Sean

As someone who has seen all sides of the car business, I can assure you that getting ripped off these days is exceptionally rare. Everyone goes into the dealerships with a chip on their shoulder expecting to get lied to, cheated, and ripped off. I'm not in the business anymore. I was a salesman for a while, and worked my way into management. For what its worth, as a manager, I never put up with any funny business, and at our dealership there wasn't any funny business to begin with. There are laws in place these days to prevent that sort of thing from happening. What burns me is that people go about their everyday lives getting ripped off everywhere else, but never bitch about it. Buy a car, and all of a sudden the sky is falling! Go find out the mark-up in stuff you buy everyday without haggling, complaining, or accusing the seller of ripping you up. I can assure you most of what you buy is marked up more than the 2-3% that the dealer ends up netting.

I work hard for my money just like everyone else, which is a perfect reason not to waste my time (and the time of 20 salespeople) shopping down to the last penny. I walk into dealerships expecting to get treated like a buyer and with respect. Funny thing- I usually act extremely polite, don't talk down to the salesperson, and that usually results in getting treated like a human being, and getting a reasonable deal from a financial perspective.

    Rant off

    Adam
