Replaced engine at 340,000 with a used engine out of a salvaged truck. Unknown mileage on that engine. Everything else i.e. Drivetrain is original.:) I've put over 100,000 on it. It is getting tired. Gonna run it till it dies.

There's a measurement interval in the owner's manual, which I failed to do in time. Just over $1200 in rebuilt cylinder head and labor.

It involves pulling the valve cover and measuring clearance at each valve. Adjustment involves removing disc-shaped shims on top of each valve "bucket" to set the clearance to spec.

Just over 28K miles since the rebuilt head went on and it still runs perfectly. I had it into the dealer and had them pull the valve cover to measure clearances, they're all in range still.

I have 184,xxx miles on my 2.7L 3RZ. A couple of years ago I heard about the valve clearance issue causing burnt valves and all that goes with it. I've since then taken my truck in every 25,000 miles to get my clearances checked. Needless to say at 184,xxx I'm still in tolerance. A couple are getting close but I will check again at 200,000 miles.

I've seen some of these engines with valve clearance issues at earlier miles and some with more miles. So I would have to say that each engine is different to when it needs adjusted. I don't know if each one comes a little bit different from the factory or what, but it's definitely a case by case issue.

New valve springs locks/retainers with your $1200 spent?. Should have been. Getting close to a head check here and gonna full rebuild the thing when it needs to be done, along with scouring the intake clean, new injectors, ect. At 214 now,,and all sounds just like it should hot or cold.

The bucket setups have been around for awhile. The old 18RG with Yamaha head I did up in the 80's when TRD was young, used buckets and shims. So simple it's stupid, but it makes for a long day adjusting valves, checking, readjusting. Of course, when your zinging the thing to 8200,stupidly,ya needs to be one with the valve settings. Only shattered one bucket in several years of beatdown. Don't miss it to much. I miss the shaft mount rockers to the stem in that respect, lol.

The heads were completely assembled on arrival. Don't know if the valve springs, locks, & retainers were new or not.

$1200 was parts and labor including Toyota head gasket kit, head bolts, Toyota coolant, etc. The head itself was in the $600 range.

I tried replacing my injectors and don't recommend it. Actual stock injectors are very expensive, and the market is flooded with lookalike chinese knock-offs that are garbage.

I got new-in-box ones from injectorwarehouse.com, very official looking sealed packages and the injectors looked just like my factory ones. They were junk. Engine ran terribly, hard to start, spark knock on hills, etc. Flow bench found 2 of them were dribbling gas out the nozzle full time and flowed nearly double the rated flow volume. Likely chinese lookalikes. Ended up getting a junkyard stock fuel rail & injectors, having the injectors ultrasonic cleaned and flow benched.

Not much in the way of problems. I was pissed at having to change a wheel bearing at 75 (46,500 miles) What the hell?? That was the left front. The right is hanging in there though. Truck gets sweeter every mile so far!!!
