Calibrate the naza before you fly it for the first time. I'm pretty sure there is steps in the manual on how to do it, only takes like 15 seconds. Also you can just leave it in GPS mode, that's what I did. When you switch it to manual it raises your gains and its a bit zippier and it will tilt more.

Manual will do a whole lot more than become zipper... You'll no longer be limited in pitch and roll... (Which means you can flip it over if you're not careful...). Manual is not natively set on your transmitter... You have to go to NAZA assistant to enable the mode. Red you're thinking of Atti mode...

Flying in manual will teach you how to fly a quad... If you rely on GPS only modes then you're only setting yourself up for failure... Google "phantom fly away"... Manual mode could have saved a lot of those quads but their "pilots" really have no idea how to actually fly a quad...

Red if you're flying an S1000 or lower with a zenmuse and GH4 and you don't know how to fly the aircraft in other than the assisted modes, you're really setting yourself up for failure as well...

    Ok thanks for the info.

So next, prop guards, worth it? I know they're not pricey but I don't know how often that vortex issues occurs of if it's good to have them for the first practice flights.

Number 2, gimbals. From what it looks like mine is already prewired to accept a zenmuse HD-2D. I assume I just screw it on and plug it in and it's good? I see some where people have to solder wires and things but I don't think I have to do that, but wouldn't it come with an extra motherboard or something if I order one?

    EDIT
Seems as if everyones sold out of the 2D too. Lovely.

    Number 3- Decent affordable cases?

Number 4- should I do a software update on it before I fly it the first time?

Sorry you'll have to deal with my n00bness for a bit :anonymous:

    1. I think the prop guards are worthless
    2. H3-3D from DJI should be simplest integration (although it is pricey) http://www.dji.com/product/zenmuse-h3-3d
    3. Check out GoProfessional cases
    4. Yes... I would.

I fly manual on my fpv quad. Have you seen the GPS puck on the a2? Also if I were to start to lose it I would flip to manual but I don't really fly aggressive enough to try and make it flip.

so now I still have to figure out how to do a software update. It also appears everyone is out of the 2D so I might just have to splurge for the 3d. I did do a small test flight yesterday in the living room while dad was holding onto it. Just so I could kind of get a feel for it.

Alright guys I have been doing some research on here and have recently gained interest in a quad, I have had all kinds of RC stuff in my past but never a quad. For starters Im looking at something in the $400 or less range that is RTF. Any suggestions on a decent quad for that price? Thanks

I know this may be a cheapo but anyone hear or have experience with the Latrax Alias?

Really depends on what you want to do... Under 400 is hard to do any Photography or video stuff... I usually recommend the Blade 180QX to new flyers to get a hang of it before dropping a ton of money on a more capable platform

Id like to be able to mount my gopro on it, and that doesnt have to be right away. I could buy the mount later if needed. But it be more for pleasure and little bit of photography.

So without a gimbal, I'd say go for a DJI Phantom or Blade 350 or 3Dr Iris+

Gimbal will make your video much better... Typically adds a couple hundred to the price though.

I'd stay away from less integrated platforms initially... Stick with the integrated RTf stuff.

Yeah they are out of my league, they are $700-$800 bucks. I need to stay around the $400 range. The 350 I think is like mid 500 and thats pushing it

You could build an F450 and strap a go pro to it, that's what I did for a while until I splurged for a gimbal. I don't think it would cost over $400.

    http://www.getfpv.com/multi-rotor-frames/dji-flamewheel-f450-arf-kit.html

Still need a flight controller, battery and a receiver / transmitter. You could use a KK2.1 board (I love this board personally) it's only $30ish, batteries are getting cheaper by the day. I recommend a few 3S 5500 mah lumenier brand and a Futaba T8J.
