I've been wondering how many of the nicer cars were wrecked... Otherwise why would you take 4500 dollars for them?

I think there were different levels of discount versus how many more mpg's the new car got.

I think the levels were 3500 & 4500, depending on certain factors like mpg, age of car and what not.

That list doesn't make a lot of sense. Why would you junk a 2007 Audi that has a lot more value even if it was wrecked for 4500 bucks? If you can afford to drive an Audi I would think you could afford the insurance to get it fixed.

I think this total program was a fail. They should have put some limits up.

People are falling for this too. "Hey the government is taking MY tax money and giving it back to me in the form of a discount on a new car... Thanks oh great government."

Now that everyone has a shiny new car, if you could do something about iran and N. Korea pointing nuclear missiles at anything that moves that would be greeeeeeaaat. Mmmm kay Peter?

Just a quick glance, but the numbers say a few things...

Chevy Blazers and Minivans of all descriptions didn't do well.

Tacomas of all stripes did VERY well.

As to this program being a FAIL, the numbers clearly say otherwise.

Forget people's motivations for why they traded in. Yes, some people who didn't NEED the incentive took advantage, but the point of this was to stimulate car sales to keep workers working.

The results were undeniable: the program's initial $1 BILLION allocation was run through in less than ONE WEEK. The program's secondary $2 BILLION didn't take much longer and had to be cut off weeks before the end date.
