This question has come up a number of times and multiple answers give multiple versions.

Contained in one of more of these threads is a pdf (PDF or copy) of the LSC (limited service rust and frame campaigns) from Toyota that lists inspection criteria and included new parts with the frame swap. I suggest that all who get an inspection/CRC coating/ Replacement frame locate these and review. Although "Most" dealers are very good, I'd hate to see any dealers get paid buy Toyota for not doing required work, incomplete work, or charge /have customers supply parts for items that Toyota will already pay for.

I can't confirm the bits and pieces, especially given the 10" of snow that just fell! I do agree with ruggedT, that they inevitably bust up a lot of pieces when they dismantle the truck. Also, if you have a decent Service Rep at Toyota, they'll make sure this stuff gets looked at and replaced only if needed, esp if it's at your expense.

Per my last peek behind my dealer ( at his Scrap metal bin), It "looked" to me that they unbolted the engine, tranny and cab/bed and then when at the frame with a torch. They Cut up / through the LCAs, Rear Leafs, then cut up the frame and pull the rear ends out. As was stated above - the Bushings/rusted stuff is cheaper to scrap than try to salvage (LCA's, Leafs, Brake lines, etc.). ( Ref the LSC PDFs for listing of the replaced parts by Toyota..)

I thought about it... but theres no way you can paint between the laminated steel. Its going to be a never ending process of patch jobs :(

That is the really crappy part about a sandwiched frame design. I am more than capable of doing what is necessary to weld in a patch, but the way these are rusting out it would not fix anything. Just delay another hole for a few years.

Took the truck in on Monday for the frame inspection. They approved a whole new frame and it is on order! Driving the truck till it comes in. They said frames may be 6 months on backorder.......of course. Hopefully the brake lines don't blow out before then!

My NYS inspection is up 1/31....called the dealer & I was told they usually only fail when frame rot is near the spring hangers?!? Idk, but I use my truck for work & if I have to buy a new one by 1/31 I'm gonna be pissed!

If What I've been reading and seeing for pics is valid, I'd say you need to find a more competent dealer ASAP.

For the spray? I was told Miller was the only one nearby that could spray because of EPA regs and something about being X amount of miles from DC. Warrenton might be set up for it but you would have to call. Tyson's, Fairfax, Chantilly, Arlington are all off the list for the spray.

Pick of mine, driver side with 95k miles. It is at the dealer waiting on my new frame and pieces parts. I am driving the dealer loaner until mine is fixed.

By choice? I was told once the truck needed a frame, they wouldn't allow me to drive it until the frame was replaced

I heard that too, but I have mine back at the house.

I also received the dealer's order sheet today in the mail for all the frame replacement parts. 3 whole pages.
