We contemplated this but we think this will definitely get too much attention from Rangers since we don't have permits (permits require insurance wich costs thousands of $$ for a group this big and must be applied for 6months ahead)

Do you think we could manage to do this? The dudes in jeeps seem to manage with their meets. It'd be cool to have some official meets and not have to worry about the fine print. maybe next year? Or maybe we could find an official 4 wheel club to join in and help out with paperwork

I met with them after last year's meet and they showed me all their paperwork and we got into detail about the $$ and the insurance policy required for a group of this size.. Just insurance alone would be between 5-10k plus it requires us to mandate everyone have some sort of roll cage and a fire extinguisher on board. plus the permit application must be done 6 months ahead and it mandates that we give maped trail runs and a detailed plan for emergencies including a medic on site etc...

It's just really quite the ordeal. Those guys each pay like $100 when they sign up so it's really not something we want to mess with till we Have to.

The problem was the weekend the jeepers choose to do their event this year conflicted with a few other events. In years past we just borrowed their portopots. Lol

Depending on your speed to get to those utilities from Superstition it would be 45 to 90 minute drive.

Yeah the lady may not like it but when nature calls we just head out till we're outta sight from camp and find a couple bushes to squat by...

Regs are what kill most off road meets. How are we getting around them currently? As in what do we tell the rangers who roll up and start their interrogation

Absolutely, typically earlier since the sun goes down around 5. I don't like driving after I start drinking for the evening.

I called last year to inquire this exact thing. I gave specific details to the trip (but gave wrong dates and said I was part of an explorer group not a tacoma group). I was told very clearly that there is no limit for people being together in the desert as long as the gathering was not advertised ( flyers, radio etc-Internet forum and social media does not count as advertisement) the people are free to come and go as they please meaning no designated runs like "you must be here from 10-2" and no money changes hands (having one guy bring beer and another giving him $20 for his share doesn't count) then it does not need a permit.

In closing if asked you saw that people were going to super on jan 9-11 on a forum, given an open invite and thought it would be fun. The raffle is the only thing shady because we bought tickets and it is somewhat organized.
