 That's quite a bit of rain! I've been seeing all the news articles saying Sacramento is supposed to get the biggest storm in the last 6 years or so, which is pretty crazy! Good luck up there!

Nice! Size looks fine to me. :)
I love that feeling of achievement I get whenever I get a photo like that through all the branches.

Alright, finally got my photos all edited from last weekend!
We went to Cajas National Park near Cuenca in Ecuador for a day hike through the Páramo (high-elevation grassland). Our hike was at around 12,700ft elevation.
Saw a couple of birds that I've seen in other high-elevation areas during my last trip but there were also a few new ones, which was awesome! The new ones were a few Variable Hawks, an Andean Tit-Spinetail, a Black-billed Shrike-Tyrant, and a Tawny Antpitta. The repeats were Chestnut-winged Cinclodes, Andean Teal, and Andean Coot. There really weren't too many birds up there! At least not that we saw. There was a swallow species that I didn't get a photo of and couldn't ID out there, so it'll remain a mystery. :(

    On to the photos!

I'm amazed this picture came out at all. Really bad lighting.
It's tough to tell what's going on but you can see the bird's head down in the foliage and his tail is sticking up along another branch. You can kinda see the big long spiny tail feathers, giving it the "spinetail" name.

And THIS guy was crazy! I didn't realize how long his legs were in the field.
[IMG]Tawny Antpitta by 92shawman, on Flickr

    Look at those legs!
[IMG]Tawny Antpitta by 92shawman, on Flickr

And then there was this goofball :p He never ended up standing still enough for me to get a nice pose picture, hence the slight out-of-focus
[IMG]Chestnut-winged Cinclodes by 92shawman, on Flickr

That's all for now! I'm going to post some panoramas and other photos in the Official Photo thread, so check those out if you want. Or check out the flickr album that they're all in.

Oh and remember those young hummingbirds I was photographing feeding from the mother? One of the babies is still here and all grown up and spectacular! I'll have to go photograph it sometime.

Kevin great job, glad you took the 400 too!

Wow Ben that is the way to get back into Baldies, great captures!

LOL, On the Pentax forum there was a contest not long ago and one of the pictures that moved up the ladder was of a black cap sitting on a huge birding lens of a camera.

Nice eagles, Ben and Coffeesnob! I'm jealous of all your guys's close-ups.

I went and helped with a Christmas Bird Count today! It was pretty fun getting out birding with my mom. Didn't see much unexpected, but we did get a pair of Townsend's Warblers, which were very pretty! Also some close-ups of a pair of California Gnatcatchers and some nice views of a ton of American Pipits, California Thrashers, a family of Red-tailed hawks, and a brief glimpse of a Sharp-shinned Hawk. Total of about 50 species for just my mom and I!

Then we heard of a continuing pair of Hooded Mergansers that were conveniently on the way back home so we stopped by and got some nice pictures! I've got quite the bunch to edit, now...

I think I missed all of the CBC's in my area. :( stupid jobs and adult type responsibilities! There is one more next weekend but its a bit of a drive. Maybe if the weather and roads are OK...

Did you have many sightings last season? You would think they would be pretty abundant where you are at? I know there are a bunch in Michigan this year! I am thinking hard about getting a ticket around the end of January or beginning of Febuary?
