Bad that I want to Trade 2013 Baja for 2015 F150 2.7 Eco

No, seriously.

This is the second time this has happened. The first was with my previous vehicle, a Honda Accord. After two years I got a brand new identical car with *lower payment.

Now my Tacoma dealer is talking about doing the same kind of deal (same payment not lower) after only a year. I'm not needing to negotiate or anything. Only have to say 'ok'.

The used Toyota sales manager said something interesting to me. This was one week after I bought my new Tacoma. He had nothing to gain by saying this. What he said was that he has never seen a vehicle appreciate in price. He doesn't ever expect to see that. But if it could ever somehow happen, it would be the Tacoma.

It's nice to *not have to hear a GM, Ford, or Chrysler dealer play that tired old game of telling me that my two year old car is junk and their new car is awesome. I am so so so so done with them.

 

if you do not use it off road than I would looking at a prerunner. I use mine on hunting ranch that is very rugged and that is why I bought the Baja. If I did not hunt I would still have a prerunner. Briefly looked at GMs before buying another Tacoma. I hear there are major problems with the Eco in the Escapes so no way I would even consider the small Eco. I am old school and still believe "there is no replacement for displacement".

 

Have any of you looking at a Ford looked under the hood? The V8 engine is buried under the body work you can't even put your hand on any thing. No matter what any one says the 2.7 will be in boast the minute you attach any thing to the back end and the mileage will fall like a rock. Have a look at any site that caters to towing and see what the owners get for mileage it's generally single numbers with the Echo Boost. If it's a bigger truck you want than go for it but your off road adventures with just be a fond memory and it may not fit in the garage. I have no use for a full size truck but if I did I probably would have a look at a Ford but I would go into it knowing it's short comings.

 

I work with a guy that has one, 2014 eco v6. it will tow about 10,000 lbs. But i got to tell you he has had it in for warranty work about 6 times in the last year. He tells me he getting close to 22 mpg. but i believe thats the dash read out. I asked him if it was off how many gallons he put in and the miles for the tank, he said it was off the read out. I bought my 2011 in December of 2010 and my only problem so far was the blower fan chirp, replaced under warranty and thats it for problems. In the summer I tow almost every weekend taking my RZR up riding on a 19" trailer and it pulls it with no problems.

 

Don't quite get what * before a word means...anyway, a dealer offering 'the same payment' doesn't mean all that much in my book. They can manipulate payments, loan term, interest rates, etc. in any number of ways to make it sound like a good deal. Check the fine print.

Now if this dealer said you could buy a 2016, and they would give you in trade what you paid for your truck new, that would be something you would want to jump on, but not 'the same payment'. Unless you plan on a payment from now on.

 

First, I'll qualify by saying ceteris paribus for those who need it.

Second, I didn't go for it. As said, going to wait another year and get lower payment, uhhhh, ceteris paribus.

Third, my point goes to never in life before having been able to do this with gm ford or chrysler.

 

I have to admit, after having Toyotas since 1975, I have been swayed by the Fords. The options are fantastic compared to the Tacoma. Sure resale isn't nearly as good, but the purchase price is less!

I do think Toyotas are more reliable, but to a member that said a friends Escape was in the shop for 40 days, how long have people been waiting for new frames?
I have had a 96 Tacoma, and now a 08. Very dissapointed to have to deals with the same issues for almost 20 years. Frames, Leaf Springs, Blower Motors, Noisy Release Bearings it's like Toyota hasn't learned anything.

I can lease a F150 for less then $300 a month for 2 years. First time leasing, truck will always be under warranty, so no worries. Maybe in 2 years I will be back with (hopefully) revamped Tacoma with some options and 100+ more HP, but for now I'm taking a break from Toyotas.

The warranty thing is a great point. But a new tacoma comes with a warranty, too. As long as you don't keep it too long.

Thing is that with buying new, and keeping it long enough, my loan payments have been going down with each purchase (ceteris paribus) . Lease payments will go up.

Not to try to down your points. They are excellent. Just arguing for fun.

 

A co-worker of mine had a 2014 Ford Ecoboost and drove it up to this past November. He bought a 2015 King Ranch to take its place. He said "potential" engine problems were the main reason he traded-in his low-mileage EcoBoost.

 

I appreciate your points, and don't really disagree with you.
My last Tacoma had almost 470,000 km's on it and I sold it for almost $6k.

I gave this example to my buddy:
He paid roughly $48k for his truck 10 years ago. Let's say in that time he has put in $5k for maintenance, including tires etc. and say he can get roughly $8k on resale after 10 years.
It's still costing him $375 a month for his truck, and he driving a 10 year old vehicle.

I don't put on the miles I used to, so I don't need a truck that will last 400,000 km's, and I sure am enjoying heated/cooled seats, adaptive cruise, blind spot monitoring, heck even heated mirrors!

Will I regret it, maybe, but I only have to live with it for 2 years and I can try something new.

2.7 in a full size? One day the turbo will break and you will miss the Taco.

 

Yeah one day the turbo will break and you won't be able to get up the incline of your drive way.

 

An engineered motor in the year 2014 won't get up a driveway incline, get out of the 80s

 

A guy I work with here traded is 13 Eco Boost F150 in on a 14 Tundra TRD. He said that Ford was junk. Brake problems, water in his intake, and a few other problems. This guy doesn't off road.

He went and test drove everything in the half ton class and said the Tundra TRD was the best.

 

I bought the Tacoma because I wanted a mid sized truck that would last for a few hundred thousand miles. Several people on the site have stacked up the miles on these trucks and they are still running. I have a good friend who put 200,000 miles on his then gave it to his son who has now driven it for a year and it's running great. If you want the Ford go ahead and buy it. It's your money and your decision.

 

I traded my Tacoma in on a FX4 with the Ecoboost and I have had none of these issues. I get on average between 19-20 and thats a combo of highway and town driving. And I don't baby this thing at all. Even pulling my toy hauler when loaded, I still get around 14-15. And to clarify, thats not a readout. I track my MPGs religiously.

The only thing that I have noticed when I am off road is the stock Pirellis suck! But, I went with the Cooper AT/3 and problem solved.

To the OP, I would do whatever makes you happy. Its your money, your truck and your choice. I was torn on trading my Tacoma in but the needs of a full size truck was too great.
