Better clutch for 2TR

That's what I figured. I'm going with the LCE Pro Clutch Kit.

 

Nice. My lce clutch has been very good to me so far.

 

Yeah I've heard only great thing from them. The only thing, everyone always says to replace the faulty throw out bearing with URD... Well the lce Kit already comes with one. Do you think I really need to spend 200$ more for just a TOB?

 

Holy shit! A $200 TOB? Whoa! That seems excessive. I don't see the need for that. I'd like to know how many people have had problems with aftermarket tob's.

I don't either. LCE is a performance company as well. I highly doubt they will have the same problems as the stock toyota TOB

 

Dang that's crazy. I would also think that LCE would make a good TOB. I didn't know this was a problem. Looks like its only for the v6 trans?

I love my LCEngineering dual comp clutch. It grips like a freaking Leopard climbing up a tree with a dead gazelle. I have not had any issues with it. Just be warned it is louder then the stock by A LOT. It will chatter when in neutral as well. This isn't an issue for me because I love how it preforms. Just so you know I changed it myself and then when it was chattering I thought I screwed up something so I took it to a shop I've been using for years recommended to me by a performance shop up my way. They did a complete tear down and reinstall and it still chatters. I was told that Dual Comp Clutches like to do that. I trust their experience since I have none with dual comp Clutches and I have not had any issues with the clutch in the past 10k+ miles. (too lazy to look up the actual mileage). I will be going with them again. I will also be buying a transmission jack to make life easier. No issues with the TOB so far.

 

Yeah I can't tell if mine is louder or not cause my truck just makes a lot of noise in general. Haha it does try and chatter sometimes when I take off slow and try and ride it a lil bit. It doesn't really like that. "I'm a peacock! You gotta let me fly!" Haha did you have to adjust your pedal at all after the install?

 

Ha ha ha... see I'm kinda scared about that. I want a clutch that's good for crawling... not too stiff. That's why I was gonna go with pro kit rather than the "dual whatever its called" kit. Hopefully its not chattery

 

A clutch that's good for crawling IS one that grabs hard. You need a strong clutch for slow crawling because the way to do that is with really low gears which means a shit load of torque. I have 4.88s and 35s and in 1st gear 4lo it's still way too fast to slow crawl. It sucks. Crawl box has been on my short list of must haves.

 

Well yes, but I thought one of the benefits of a good off road clutch is the ability to hold your foot on it so you don't roll back. It sounds like this clutch wants to chatter when you do that...

 

A good off-road clutch in the crawling world is one with holding power. Gears are generally so low that you can damn near hold the brake and the truck will still be driving. You need a clutch to handle the torque. A less quality one or a weaker one will slip which means that you aren't going anywhere. In my instance, although it's hard to rock crawl with this clutch and my gears, the clutch holds and allows me to keep driving forward where as the clutch before was easier to crawl with because it would slip but if tough spots it would just slip and I wouldn't continue going forward. If you go with lower gears and bigger tires, you would be ignorant to not also get a stronger clutch. A weaker clutch would work for less stressful things like street driving or easy trail riding but any kinda semi extreme rock crawling and that thing will be toast and you won't be a very happy offroader. Haha

 

Ok haha. I'm sure it just takes some getting used to to find that spot where it engages and will hold you on an incline. Its definitely not bad offroad right?

 

Oh no not at all. It still has that spot where it will keep the truck from rolling without engaging. It's not a 6 puck. As you said, getting used to it is a very important part. The best mod you can do is driver mod. Knowing how your truck acts and drives will go a lot farther then just having big tires or low gears. I'll pretty much let anyone drive my truck on or off-road but i don't trust anyone rock crawling it because I know how hard it is to do and if it's hard for me then someone who doesn't "know" the truck is gonna have problems.

I'm not trying to talk you into the stronger clutch, just suggesting you have a feel good about the one you buy that's right for what you want to do because swapping clutches isn't the most fun work to perform on your truck, especially if you're like me and do it by yourself on your back. Haha

 

Ok that's good. I don't want a clutch that feels like it only has 1/4" of travel that engages it, you know what I mean? That's the reason I was going to go with the pro kit because it says its not as stiff as the dual comp that you're running. I don't really want to go OEM again cuz well... who likes to do that

Yeah I'm changing out the clutch myself, I have a car lift though ... Hopefully all goes well and I'm happy with it!

 

Yeah its def not off or on. There's more play then that. The pedal is surprisingly not stiff as well. I just figured it was gonna be noticeably stiffer then stock or the other clutch I had but it's not bad at all.
