USA today is basic fish wrap for a news paper. Its all political, they want you in a prius or the bus. If your driving a truck your killing the planet with that unnecessary vehicle. Just look at what they think is best for you to drive and that will say it all.

I'm referring to the fact that youre making political comments in a conversation that has absolutely nothing to do with politics. So you can point that oh so wise finger right back at yourself.

I think I read the same article a couple days ago on yahoo, comparing the jeep to a Camry? I absolutely love their reasoning. <sarcasm>

Didn't the frame thing get resolved with change of manufacturers on 2010+? Or it's still TBD I guess

That's what I'm referring to. No one is bringing up politics except you. Those statements will get the thread closed.

To be clear, I don't like consumer reports either.

Simple thing is, the ranger pretty much put the dakota and colorado out to pasture, with the help of the tacoma. Noone cares about the frontier...

The tacoma made the ranger go the way of the do-do bird as well.

I'm from NJ, and now have lived in CA for a year and a half. In jersey, there's two small pickups that you see, everywhere... the ranger and tacoma. Here in cali, there's two small pickups, the ranger and tacoma. That tells me something: they must be the best, longest lasting, most reliable trucks. Otherwise, we'd see more of the other 3 small pickups.

I don't really feel that much better about my tacoma, than I did my two 94 rangers. I wanted a newer ranger when I went looking for a new truck, but there's just not that many rangers out here (still more numerous than the other 3, but not as many as tacos). So I ended up with a tacoma that fit my needs. It performs as expected, the seats are comfy, it rides nice (still rides like a damn truck, and I love it, because it's a truck!) It doesn't seem any more difficult to work on than any other newer vehicle (let's face it, it's not like a 70's with a carb and dizzy, running on 3 wires).

I originally only wanted a ranger, because I know how to work on them, and know what they can do (a LOT). After not being able to find a suitable ranger around here, I opened my search to tacomas, because everyone that I've met that has one, loves it, and when taken care of, they don't have problems with them.

So all in all, do your own research, have reasonable expectations, and think about what you really need/want. The tacoma is really the only small pickup on the market. I wouldn't even consider the chevy/dodge/nissan simply because they don't sell, and there's a reason for it... the ranger and tacoma are far superior products, and apparently the tacoma is the superlative, being the only one that actually sells still and isn't discontinued. Survival of the fittest...

I believe he was just stating that he was familiar with the rangers and knew what they were capable of, vs buying a new unfamiliar truck

not to put words in his mouth, just my interpretation

Here's my experience with buying a product recommended by CR's:
purchased a pressure washer based on CR rec's. First I found out I have to have a special water hose and electrical cord to run it. Ok after spending like $100 at Lowes I get back to the house, hook everything up and then it blows my breaker every five minutes of use. Ok, I take it to an authorized repair facility 40 miles away and leave it for 2 weeks. Ok I get it back and it still doesn't run worth a horses behind. Ok so I sell it and get a pressure washer with a gas engine not even mentioned in CR's report. Works fine. Ok so I don't renew my subscription to CR's. Thanks CR's.
