So, I installed my TRD Quick Shifter with the TRD Shift Knob, and already noticed one potential issue.

The way the TRD Shift Knob sits on the shifter, the upper part of the shift boot isn't clamped down and is able to rattle around. Normally, the OEM shift knob would hold it down.

Here is a photo of the issue (not my photo, but illustrates it well).

Anyone have any solutions to this?

If it were mine, I'd either drill and tap that top collar and put a set screw in it, or slide a correct sized collar clamp down on the shaft until it makes contact and lock it into position.
Or what if you were able to cut the appropriate sized wooden dowel (hollowed of course) and let the knob hold them in position. You could apply a nice stain finish on the wood.

The shift stick widens out the father down it goes. Just push the silver ring down until its tight. Another solution I've seen is getting a rubber washer and sliding that down on top of the silver part. It holds the boot down and hides that reflective surface.

Shoving it down doesn't work. I tried that and it just comes up again after a few shifts. I guess I'll try the rubber washer or an o ring or something. Good idea.

^ that rubber washer idea is spot on. I think I'll take the boot out and paint the chrome first before sliding the washer on the shaft.

    I hate chrome...

The same shit everyone else has.
I want to install one of those knobs on my truck, but hate how unfinished the whole install looks.

One idea that crossed my mine was to go to the hardware store and find either a brass/steel bushing that was the same inner diameter as the shifter and was the appropriate length to fit between the boot and knob and paint and install it there to hid the weird gap area.

You could probable use a brass pipe nipple or black iron pipe or even plastic and cut/paint it to cover/fill the gap.

Rubber tube or shrink tubbing. Cut to desired length. No more chrome and no more rattle. Just another idea.

What I did on my Civic, which may (or may not) work on your shifter; was to remove the shift boot, pry (or cut off) off the chrome ring, turn the boot inside out and upside down (so it was basically making a inside out funnel over the shifter), and then use a zip tie to cinch the fabric of the boot to the shifter. When you fold the boot back over the shifter it turns correct side out but the very top of it is folded over and clipped in by the zip tie, which is not visible because it is now on the inside of the boot. Reinstall the knob and GTG.

No pictures, sorry. This was a mod I did to remove the 8th gen shift knob and replace it with a 7th gen shift knob, which was just a hard rubber unit instead of the stupid hard plastic multi-colored 8th gen one. The 8th gen one clipped into the top of the shift boot and the replacement one did not, so I had a similar extra piece that flopped around.

Whether this will work depends on the amount of extra material in the shift boot.

A short shifter isn't going to fit the boot like a stock shifter.

anyone change anything about the retaining nut?

I have this shift knob, ran it, and compared to others found a finger constantly smacking into the metal nut underneath either jamming my finger or cutting it

Maybe a plastic protective cap or something, modified to stay on

round outside to remove edges sounds even better
Compared to any other car shift knob having a big exposed hardware is a pretty shitty design

one of these in black would probably look better too. And I think they’re only $3
