With a supercharged 5.7 in a Tacoma, you'd be spending a lot of time in the ditch. My SC'd Tundra with a 6" lift and 35s that weighed 2000lbs more than a Tacoma was hard enough to drive without getting sideways.

I'd be happy with that 4.6L. No turbo. No Charger.

Just a nice stock NA 304 HP and 324ft/Lbs.

That's about the only motor they could put in that would actually make me upgrade. A 3.5L making roughly the same numbers is not an upgrade. A 4.0L Dual VVT making a little bit more power isn't much of an upgrade.

The Taco is pretty brilliant overall, but lacks appropriate torques to be able to tow, even small travel trailers, up hills at reasonable speeds. It the only serious shortcoming of the truck.

    I doubt we are getting a V8 option. Either v6 4.0L dual VVTI , 3.5L 2GR-FSE or a 4 cyl Turbo (which i doubt very much)

Yep, I, sadly, agree. In all likelihood it'll be the dual VVT 3.5 making about the same numbers as the current single VVT 4.0.

But, that's not an upgrade IMHO. Gas mileage is less important to me than not getting smeared by a semi-truck as I try to climb steep grades, but I'm probably in the minority. Most people on here use their trucks like cars, and seem to expect priius like mileage numbers, which, on a side note, kinda' pisses me off - if mileage is so important to you, get a car.

There's no reason Toyota couldn't have made a new 4.0 with 300/300, but instead the chose to recycle an existing power plant in a vehicle it wasn't intended for.

In all honesty. I will love if they keep the 4.0L, i just hope they will give it direct injection and reach close to the 300hp and 300 lbs of torque , that for me would be sweet. Changing the Automatic transmission to 6speed and change the ratios on the 6speed manual so it will produce the same MPG as the automatic.

There's no reason why they can't/couldn't spruce up that 4.0 and make it decent. But the 4.7 isn't a whole lot bigger, would probably get better mileage because it wouldn't have to work so hard and make the truck amazing for doing actual truck work.

Remember, the modern Tacoma is within inches of a full-size truck from the 60s and 70s.

yes, because all the 4 bangers with less power are getting smeared by semi-trucks.

A friend in Guatemala has one (Hilux) six speed. I think it's an '11 or '12. The hood scoop is functional, as it feeds the under hood mounted intercooler.

Just doesn't have the goodies to pass all the US requirements, because the rest of the world pretty much doesn't care.

Diesel is also cheaper than gas in the rest of the world, as it should be, since it needs less refinement.

Diesel in the US is not an economical operating choice for normal daily driving, it's just a durability/torque choice.

Ditch the corn lobby nonsense on gas, price the fuel products to reflect ground to pump, and diesel will take its rightful position like it does in the rest of the world.

I'm hoping that's not the case but the current rumor suggests so. I woud like to see a tweaked up 4.0l.
