I have noticed that one some 2005-2011 Tacomas that the parking lights that are illuminated when the headlights are off are the orange lights nearest the grille. On other 2005-2011 Tacomas, the parking lights that illuminate are on the corners of the headlight assembly nearest the front fenders.

Why the variations? Is it based on year? It doesn't appear to matter if the truck has the OEM foglights or not as I have seen both variations with and without the OEM fogs.

The lights nearest the grill that you see on are the turn signals. On trucks with daytime running lights, those are the ones that illuminate. The "parking lights" are on the top outside corners or the headlight housings.

I think, only from my observations, that Off-Road and Sport pkg trucks have DTRL, while the base and SR5 trucks do not. My friend's '06 Sport has them, my '07 SR5 does not. I'm not sure to what years inclusively this applies. Like I said, based solely on my observations.

On my 2009 SR-5 ac, DTRL was apparently a regional standard accessory, itemized at about $40.00 on the sticker (bought in North Carolina), as was the tow package (option TO, $600.00). Here in Memphis, DTRL was not nearly as common, regardless of model, base, SR5, or either of the TRD's when I bought the truck. Maybe due to different import region?

With the '12+ the DRLs/turn signals dim to become parking lights when the headlights are on.

Operation of my turn signal lights. Headlamps off, both filaments on (DTRL). Headlamps off, only low wattage filament on for parking lights/turn signals.
