Bump for the bumps

 

here's my old one in my access cab. Nothing too fancy but it was VERY well built and is a permanent addition to that truck. I feel bad for anyone who tries to uninstall it... they will be very disappointed at what they get themselves into.

Im curious on how to spec out a box, how did you go from subwoofer enclosure volume requirements to Height x Width x Depth?

 

easiest is online calculator

W x H x D / 1728 = cubic feet,
makesure to use internal measurements

 

So it depends on how much space you have, then you just trial & error for the right numbers until you get the subs required enclosure volume? Just doing some research

 

I personally don't do it like that.

I know roughly how much space there is based on the dimensions.
Then i have a range, say 25 % of " recommended " size
Build to that 25 % if i can and reduce air space with 2x4s etc till i get the sound i want or the Meter score i want. Sometimes bigger is better on the meter, sometimes its not. Then taking port width into accounting and over all tuning and it becomes a whole different ball game...


In all honestly, people massively over think it.
Just keep it simple and don't sweat the " specific numbers"

im not saying toss a 8 inch sub in a 20 cubic foot box... but rather a good range depending on the subs characteristic and power that you are providing it.

 

When you have space constraints, yeah, that's pretty much the easiest way. If I remember correctly, you're building your box behind a double cab seat? You could write out equations using your known constraints. Figure out the square internal area of the side profile of your enclosure and let's call that S. If your total cubic area is X cu.ft., and you need to know the internal length (L) of your box to make it at the right volume, it's SL=X and solve for L; L=X/S.

I've designed a few cylindrical enclosures for home theater / PA systems using calculus equations and that was a TON of work.
