Did you mean 33x10.5? You typed 31x10.5, and your profile says 32x10.5

Guys thanks so much for the feedback. I think after reading Brett's full build the 882 might be the happy median for on and off-road. John thanks for your advice as well. I know the ride will be a little stiff without the bumper and the winch on but I would rather just buy one set of coils. I spoke with Wheelers this past week and they stated that after time the 882 would sag more noticeably than the 883. Is that true? Also are you guys currently running a diff drop?

I'm running the diff drop. Takes about 30-45 minutes to install, including removal and replacement of the skid plate.
The sag I noticed on the 882's after the bumper, winch and about a year of bouncing is 0. I just measured again and I'm still sitting at 24" hub to fender. If you get extended length studs for the upper coil assembly, you can add a thin top spacer as needed to bring the front back up if it should sag.

I have one, who actually knows if it helps. :notsure: 1" diff drop only brought the cvs down a little not much.

Johnny: It's rubbing on the mud flap when I make sharp turns. My profile is wrong, I have 31x10.50. I'd like to move up to 33x12.50, what size wheel do you recommend? I've been told 4.5 - 5" backspacing, but the topic of backspacing and offset confuses the hell out of me!

Yea, I didn't run diff drops either and haven't had any problems with the CV angle. I don't know if having Camburg UCAs helps or not...

My truck came with the diff drop from the previous owner. I have vibes at hwy speeds and I'm thinking about removing the diff drop to see if they go away. It has a cheap spacer lift at the moment but my OME order has already been placed. Do I need to buy shorter bolts if I remove the diff drop or can I re-use the ones that came with it?

I'm running the Toytec diff drop. Took all of about 5 mins to install as the factory skid was removed. I've never had any kind vibration in the front due to the lift. I did have the typical vibration from a worn diff bearing that was replaced with the east coast bushing. For the time it took to install I felt the drop was worth it.

I will say that if you do the diff drop you need a good skid plate to protect it.

You'll probably need the shorter bolts. Not sure if you've seen it, but the bolt is like 6ish inches long, and only the top inch or two is threaded.

Suppose you could try it but just be careful not to break anything above, or dork up the threading on the mount... That would suck.

Yeah I'm still surprised your rubbing on 31's. I have a 33x12.5 with 3.75" backspace and only rub when reeeeaaalllly stuffed off-roading (I cut a lot too), but I would think a lift on 31's would keep you way far away from rubbing issues. Are your wheels stock tacoma wheels?

As for backs pacing... Smaller the number, the more your wheel sticks out. Aside from also liking a pushed out wheel aesthetically, it helps me clear wider tires (keeps the tire off control arm).

I think factory is about 4.6" offset, which would be fine for a 33x10.5 - might rub on the frame a tad bit at full lock as I recall. A higher offset wheel or a small spacer would fix this. I lean towards wheel with lower bs over spacer. I have had the 33x10.5 15 on factory wheels, and added spacer to them and then went new wheels/tires. Check out my build if you want to see what it's all about.

Sounds like your caster is out of whack. When's the last time you had an alignment done?

Don't worry too much about offset. That is simply the distance the mounting flange is from the center of the wheel. The number is a bit meaningless without knowing the width of the rim.

You're more concerned about backspacing. Stock is around 4.5". When going to bigger tires, you'll want less backspacing to avoid rubbing on the frame and UCAs. I run 4" with 285/75R16 and I have mild rubbing on the frame at full lock. Most guys run around 3.5" to 3.75" with the 33x12.5 tires.

Less backspacing and wider rim results in larger scrub angle but that really can't be helped. That's where smacking in the pinch weld (and sometimes tubbing) comes in.

You shouldn't need to run for 33's. Even with an iffy alignment, I just beat back the firewall a bit with the sledge. Probably wouldn't even need that with a decent alignment. But everything said above is sound advice...

    Edit
    I meant tub for 33s

I have 15x10 eagles, with 3.75" of backspacing. My thought is that the 10" wide wheel is causing my tires to rub; whereas if I stuck with a 15x7 or 15x8 I'd probably be fine. But I haven't done any cutting so that could help out down the road. I've never done any cuttin before, so Id definitely have to do some research. Once I get this wheel/tire thing worked out, I'll have my 4.56 gears installed. I recently got some 17x9s for my t4r with 4.75" of backspacing. I'm hoping to get some 33s on that guy as well. That wheel size/bs was recommended to me by 4wheelparts.com....I'm hoping for the best! Happy new years, guys!!

I've owned two Jeep Cherokees, a Suzuki Samurai, and now a Tacoma... OME makes lifts for all these vehicles, and I've always wanted one. Pretty excited to replace the tired springs. Original shocks and springs, and I'm at 193k, about time.

QUESTION: With the shell (~150lbs), sleeping platform (40lbs), and random gear (~50lbs), should I order an AAL? I tow on a regular basis as well, although the tounge weight is less than 100lbs. My saggy stock leafs still do the trick, but it's a jarring ride.

I've read around and I think I will order an AAL. So... options, opinions, and preferences?

    Thanks all!!

I have 883s up front. With Dakars with the AAL. I carry my bed rack and RTT 24-7. Had just the Dakars and they started to sag so I ended up throwing the extra leaf in

You will probably appreciate the AAL with that weight. Will keep springs in a happy place.

Should this AAL do the trick? It's the OME AAL for vehicles carrying a constant load of >220lbs. I've got no additional weight up front so the 881's should suffice. Thanks again for the help
