I'm currently in the market for a Taco. I'm in the used sub $30k market right now, or I could start saving for a down payment on a brand new 2016. There's one I'm looking at that I want to pull the trigger on right now, but I also want to at least wait until the 2016 is revealed before I decide.

Driving a '04 Sierra at the moment that a got into an accident with a few weeks ago. Still runs fine, just isn't very visually appealing at the moment.

I have the NEW-CAR itch symptom so I might buy one if I really like it.

    Welcome to TW.
I would say if you can wait till after the new one comes out, then wait. You would then have a choice between two generations. And I would imagine there will more used 2nd gens available at that time then than there are now (could lead to lower used prices).

I'm considering it. I just bought my '14 RC 4x4 and the family expanded so now I need more cab space. It'll mainly depend on motor, cab config, mpg, etc. only time will tell.

Thanks, I've been just reading on here for a while now, but I decided to finally get involved. I drove my dad's '99 regular cab in high school and college and loved it. He's still got it and still in great condition (only ~110k miles on it).

The one I'm looking at now is a 2011 DCSB TRD Off Road, 40k miles. They're asking $25k and I've blue booked it at $29-$30k (with the certified pre owned warranty). It seems like a good deal, which is why I'm considering it, but I'm just afraid I'm too close to 3rd gen reveal to take the plunge.

3.5L, 6 speed auto. not sure if they're being currently used however haven't checked... i'm not too worried about it personally (would buy a 16), but will probably wait a while since my 04 has 60K miles on it...

I will be in the running for the first to buy one if the engine is upgraded. I love the speculation on a new engine providing close to 300 horsepower. An upgrade in the infotainment area would also be appreciated. If the engine is the same, I am not interested. My 2010 V6 only has 50,000 miles and now that I'm retired that number won't increase too quickly.

More rear legroom is a must. If the horsepower, torque, and mileage are comparable to GMs new twins (and my tall son will fit in the back), I'd get the 2016 Tacoma the moment my dealership would let me order it.

This '04 Corolla has been fantastic, but it's time my kid inherited it.

I'm considering it. My 03 is getting up there in age and miles but it really depends on what the 2016 looks like. If they stay true to their roots and build a quality tough looking off-road focused truck then I'll buy one in a couple of years. If they release anything that looks even remotely like that bubble box Hilux pic that floating around I'll pass.

Just because it's mid-sized in width doesn't mean it can't be appropriately-sized in length. Why do tall people have to be forced into the larger cars? Why can't my brother drive a Fiat 500 or Mini Cooper? He's tall. He'd love something Ranger or Tacoma sized, but has to stick with the F-150 because of his height.

He hates my wife's Prius. Even with the seat all of the way back, he's against the dashboard.

If I want to have my knees jammed into a chunk of aluminum and plastic, I'll fly American Airlines. Otherwise, I want my legroom. I shouldn't have to compromise into more truck than I need to get it.

Point made. Still, I'm 6' tall, and my son is 6' 1". Would you agree that is an "average" height? I'm not an NBA player, so it's reasonable that I would fit in an average sized vehicle. The front of the Tacoma is perfectly sized. The back seat - not so much.

Also, while none of the people you mention can fit in the "average" sized items you mention, the upsized items (except maybe Shaq's shoes) aren't priced 30% or more over and above. I don't need a full sized truck for daily life, and definitely don't want to pay the higher maintenance and insurance costs. I simply want a reasonably-sized vehicle.

Ironically, the Hilux trucks we drove in the Middle East had plenty of back seat room. Go figure.

The problem is that people with tall families (or those who need the rear legroom for their aging relatives in the rear seats) need the extra room, but we dont want to deal with trying to shoehorn those FS trucks into our garages (sure I have 1" to spare front and back, but how many times will I ram the wall or garage door?!). Midsize trucks (ala-Tacoma/Colorado) will fit just fine, and the GM twins have the extra rear legroom that I need.

Because some people unrealistically think a Tacoma is a good people mover?

I'm 5'11" and have no problem sitting in the back seat of my Tacoma it has plenty of room IMO. Maybe not for high chairs but enough to get people around.

Keep it roughly the same dimensions and weight, kick the HP and torque up into the 315hp/340 torque range (even optional), and that is a kickass truck for ten years. Throw in some amenities like rear seat A/C and heat, heated mirrors, locking glovebox/tailgate, power rear slider, that thing will sell galore. Frame problems won't even matter. Not to me anyway, I live in the dry West where there is no problems.
