    Hi folks -
I'm going to look at a 2002 Tacoma 4x4 regular cab tomorrow. The seller says it has the TRD package. It does have 16" toyota (they look like steel) wheels, but no TRD graphics on the rear fenders.

Is there any way to tell if it really has the TRD package, or they just swapped some 16" toyota wheels from another truck?

    Thanks!

Grey wire and keyless entry. I like stock.
Look under and see if it has a rear locking diff. TRD's came stock with a rear locker.

Yeah, check the VIN, or if you're already checking the truck out, look at the rear differential - if there is a little motor actuator (for the rear e-locker) on the right side of the differential, it's a TRD.

TRD was only offered in Extended or Double cabs.

SR5 was the highest package available for single cabs and are extremely rare.

I stand corrected - it's not the TRD package - but an SR5 package the truck supposedly has. Was that badges and 16" wheels for the most part, or is there another way to tell?

    IT'S A 2002 REGULAR CAB, AUTO, 4X4.

SR5 in that model was nothing more than a convenience package, Tachometer cluster, AC, Power windows and locks basically with either chrome trim instead of black or a color keyed package that made all trim and bumpers the same color as the trucks paint, only a few colors were offered this way.

TRD on the larger models added all SR5 stuff with the TRD stickers, better suspension and the rear locker.

Thanks mwrohde - that helps explain a lot. I'm thinking it's an SR5 with the 16" wheels and black fender flares - I'll be able to verify tomorrow.

    Thanks again everyone.

Well … checked out the truck today and it wasn't worth what they were asking. :(

Had a new frame, and much of the front suspension replaced, but the rest of it was too rough for the $9000 firm they were asking.

Bummer - but I get to keep looking ….

$9k!!! No Way!!!! Glad you passed.

for $9k you could get an extra cab V6 TRD in great shape 01-04 style.

That truck should be listed for $5k tops. its 13 years old and was only like $16 new.

Thanks Taco - good to hear. Since it was an auto, they might be able to get $7K for it - but still - it needed a lot of work.

I have to remind myself the search can be fun too ...

I've been trying to figure out what exactly is on my truck. I have the power accessories, sliding window and privacy glass, however, I don't have cruise control. I know its atleast a PreRunner and SR5.

considering it had a new frame, that's a positive. also you never mentioned how many miles, where you're at, or what the "damage" was so that makes a big difference when you look at price.

depends on the shape/miles. $9k for xcab would have have 160k+ miles easy, even for the 4cyl.
