Glad to join this thread!


Anyone think this will work in the floor of the tepui kekunam ruggedized? I know the floor is thicker on that model. I'd love to be able to wire it up clean and flush mounted. I could make sure I didn't kill the battery with the meter, charge the phones and plug whatever else in. I wonder about the mounting depth though.

Amazon. Just googled flush mount USB charger and found that thing with all 3.
I think I'll try the USB and meter because they look shallower than a cigarette plug, which I already have in my bed side.
Stuck cause the listed part has no depth dimensions and I'm not sure how thick the floor of my brand new RTT is...

 

My ruggedized autana was pretty easy to drill through the floor. I had to move the rails closer together by about 2 inches each. Just used a bunch to get a little divit and then use a step drill bit. Its a sheet of diamond plate (1/8" thick maybe?) along with something else on the inside. BoxRocket can tell you better info as he sells them.

 

I'd put it in an enclosure and use some kind of cord. That way, you don't compromise the integrity of the tent.

I thought about something similar but decided I didn't want to damage the floor of the tent, then possibly kneel on the outlet and ruin the floor even more.

Which I have in one of the pockets of the tent. Just run a long 12v cord down to an always hot 12v outlet in the bed or cab.

I spliced the power and ground wires for the led strip in my tent to the power and ground wires on the 12v/USB outlet thing, so they are all powered by the same cord (with an inline switch before the lights).

Now I can charge a phone, run a 12v fan in the summer, 12v heated blanket in the winter, etc and there's no permanent damage to the tent. Cord goes through the flap at the hinge.

 

I like that 12v extention idea...
I'm about to look at 12v heating blankets!

 

Yeah I'm stuck between making a sweet install all flush mounted and using a 12v extension cord and splicing this setup into it and just leaving it set in the tent pockets. Only draw back is damaging it when I fold it up, where a flush mount wouldn't really hurt anything other than leaving permanent holes in the floor if I had to remove it.
Decisions decisions....

Not that this thing is accurate in the slightest but this is the greatest thing ever.

 

yea i think it would definitely stick out the bottom side of the floor, so if you can find something (or make something) that covers that part and maybe reinforces the floor a bit you'll probably be ok.

any heat in there or just body heat?

 

I was thinking even if it does mount deeper than the floor is thick, I'll just make a spacer plate to mount it through- a flat plate that sticks up 1/2" or so in the corner of the tent really wouldn't bother anyone and it'd be so badass to have all that wired in right next to you. No cords to get tangled or anything.

Just got my little buddy for Christmas and hopefully i will be trying it out this weekend.

 

Yeah the little buddy worked well for me - just pop it on while you are getting ready for bed so the tent is warm. I turn it off when I close my eyes as a precaution... When you wake up turn it on and wait til it is warm enough to get outta the bag.

I did this ^ solo in the tent in 30ish degree weather wih my 0degree mummy bag and stayed reasonably warm.

 

Sounds exactly like what my weekend will be like. High 20's at night so Ill be using my little mr buddy heater. Think I should put the annex up? I was thinking the smaller space of just the tent the heater will work better

I've used it in rainy 30 degree weather and left it running all night. No issues whatsoever. Just gotta remember that propane burns and leaves water vapor behind so you get condensation pretty bad without ventilation . as far as suffocating, my super scientific trial and error testing says the condensation will make you open the window to vent before you could ever die, assuming the little buddy's O2 level trigger thing somehow fails and keeps burning. Itll keep your whole tent hot for about 6 hours before running dry

 

No way im falling asleep with a propane heater running in a tent haha, i'd just let it warm up to take the edge off, not to make it a sauna
