I've been a truck girl since I bought my first Toyota pickup new in 1990. Didn't even know how to drive a stick back then but wanted one, so the salesguy took me out on the residential street behind the dealership and taught me, and I drove it home that day. :) Traded it 6 years later for a Tundra, but got into a war with the dealership and out of spite traded THAT for a Corolla (from someone else, used), which I think I kept for a few years and wrecked a few times. Then got a 1998 Dodge Ram diesel which in the 5-6 years I owned that I took it to Alaska on a road trip...one of my best vacations ever. Then I got a 2001 F250 Super Duty diesel (all my trucks are sticks) which I adored but when I got a job just 3 miles from home I didn't want to ruin the diesel engine driving cold all the time so I traded it for a GMC Sierra. Only kept that a year, didn't really like it for some reason, and downgraded to cars from then on out, especially when I started a pet sitting business and started driving 25k miles a year. Well, aside from random trucks like the S-10 someone gave me that was a falling apart piece of junk that I drove across country and then towed to Minnesota to give to my buddy, and the older F250 gas truck I had for a year or so as a spare vehicle.... those were cool too.

Seriously though, all this time that I have been buying and trading my trucks I was always regretting having gotten rid of the original Toyota pickup and once the Tacomas started coming out I really liked the looks of them. So when my last car, a 2007 Corolla with 224,000 miles on it, needed a clutch that was going to cost me more than the value of the car to replace, I decided it was time to finally get what I've been wanting for years - a Taco!

I only bought it yesterday but found this forum already when looking to find out how to detach the middle seat belt and you guys had the answer. Thanks!

It's a super base 2010, no nothing at all except 4x4, stick, 4cyl, plus bonus bench seat for my buddy Gus (my dog, as you can probably tell from my name). It is exactly what I wanted and I LOVE THIS TRUCK. I don't know if it has some other designation like pre-runner or something, how does one know? It didn't have an owner's manual, the dealer is going to order me one and mail it to me.

Anyway looking forward to being part of TW and learning lots about my new truck!!

welcome!! I also have the same truck as you, except 2014 model. I am super jealous though because I wanted the red paint but they stopped producing that color when I bought my truck, this truck is my first manual and I honestly love it.

Thanks Janster! I'm from out west, in Butler county. I drive all over the state though, always looking for new remote places to go hiking with Gus. Just two weeks ago we went to Quehanna Wild Area and spent the whole day in the woods and never saw another person. It was awesome!

akkyle, coincidentally, my first Toyota pu was red too, but none of my other trucks have been in all the years! Manuals are the most fun to drive. :)

its probably for the best anyways, Alaska winters turn any paint color into grey. are you planning to do any off-roading with it or strictly as a daily driver?

well not 'real' off-roading, but definitely muddy forest service roads and the like, for camping and hiking getaways.

I love Alaska, by the way. I worked on the Valdez oil spill all summer in 1989, and went back in '98 on that road trip.

Didn't the bench seats only come with the 4x2, and bucket seats for 4x4?

Yeah the valdez oil spill was before my time (only 19) but I love Alaska as well, lots of hiking, fishing, hunting, off-roading, skiing. Couldn't imagine living anywhere else

No I was the engineer -type person on the tug boat pushing the barge that made the steam that sprayed the oil off the rocks so the other people could wipe it with rags! LOL!

p.s. - i need a cap like that for road trips someday! did you have to custom fab the tailgate or is that some kind of drop-in????
