Yeah, even though my BFG are rated with the snowflake symbol, I run on 265/75R 16 on separate wheels for.my snow season adventures. My 2005 has the mechanical LSD which is fun in 4x4 because I can still add in some oversteer when I want it.

I also end up towing a snowmobile trailer at times in winter.

It's been too cold here to work on anything! Trust me, I can't wait to get the light bar on either, especially after hooking it up one night just to test and lighting up the entire neighborhood.

sorry if this has been discussed earlier but i glanced through all 23 pages and didnt see anything about it. did anyone notice any type of drag or "loss of power" feeling after installing these tires? trying to see if this will make the truck noticebly sluggish since they are kinda on the heavy side.

ha...im going from stock to 2.5 to 3.0" icon lift and 17" methods with a 285. im sure im gonna feel a differance. these seem to be 10+lbs ea. more than the 10ply terra grapler g2's. trying to decide between these 2 tires at this point.

Yea I'm stoked to get mine up to, been waiting on my roof rack order that because it's me was not smooth :annoyed:

I haven't noticed a big noticeable loss, I wasn't really paticular in looking for one tho. As I see it the only time you may notice is when your stop and go. At a steady speed it excellerates as much as the gas you give. IMO once a tire is rolling weight doesn't matter, it's when you start from a stopped position you may feel it.

So I got some Maxx's about a month ago. here's a couple of crappy pics from then. I previously had 265/70/17 General Grabber AT2's, was out on a trail and had just crossed a creek and heard a pop when I was coming up the bank, a couple of minutes later my TPMS light came on, long story short I was in the middle of nowhere, with no good place to change a flat. That was a fun time. Before that, I had been teetering about getting a heavier plus ply tire but after that I decided, the extra weight and potential loss of power was worth it for the extra durability and security/peace of mind. The Grabbers were almost done anyway, which probably contributed to the puncture.

The next day I went to Discount Tire, they didn't have the Maxx's there. All they had was tires I wasn't really interested in. But for safety reasons they didn't want to plug the Grabbers to buy time for me so they could get the Maxx's...
So with their 1 month return policy, I decided I'd just get a set of 265/70/17 DuraTracs put on then and roll out.

Within the first couple of days, steering wheel shake developed, pretty sure it was a front balance issue. A couple of days after, I had to make about a 300 mile round trip, during that trip one of the rears was causing my bed to bounce at highway speeds, again pretty sure it was balance. I decided I was going to return them and have them order the 265/70/17 Maxx's. Had the Duractracs about two weeks.

I'll have to post some better pics later. I haven't been on TW that much recently. But I'll try and get some better soon.

Oh also, since the subject comes up I've noticed about the comparision between Duratrac and St Maxx.. And since I had brand new Duratracs and Maxx's. My thought is, as far as sound goes.. I believe the Duratracs are a bit louder and more annoying (to me), but have more of a higher pitch sound. The Maxx's have a lower tone, but they still do make some noise, but aren't really "loud" specially for as agressive as the tread pattern is. The Grabbers were super quite compared to either.
The ride, I believe the Duratracs MAY have been slightly less rigid. But that doesn't mean the ride is worse with the Maxx's. They ride fine, but with the stiffer side wall you feel bumps more etc.

With the Maxx's I've noticed in wide sweeping turns at highway speeds, if you allow the truck to straighten in the turn then correct it back into the turn, there's a little bit of a lag (like the truck is still headed in the previous direction before catching up to your turning), and almost feels floaty.

You can definitley tell with either Duratracs or Maxx's that you're running a heavier tire. It's hard to explain to those who haven't felt that feeling. But I don't believe my MPG has been effected much if any, which has surprised me. As far as get up and go, you may have to put the pedal down a little more to get the same as you would with a lighter tire, but not really a big deal. On the same note, I feel like once they get rolling there's something to be said about momentum.

I believe I do have one out of balance now, having some steering wheel shake, so I'm gonna go get it checked.

Great post Guerrilla. Thanks for the awesome review. I think I am sold on the Maxx's. They look like what I want, the seem to perform to what I need them to and I definitely like the plus ply aspect.
