Hmm. My guess is the current 4.0 as well. The drivetrain would need a complete revamp to take any more power, and then we'd end up with a Tundy. Bring back the '85 with the modern 4 cyl and a diesel option, with four doors and I'm in.

Looks like the 4Runner is getting the 4.6L from the Tundra. Doesn't a truck need that power to tow and do truck stuff? Why always the better engine in the Runner, doesn't make sence.

No. SUVs are generally stuffed full of people, camping shit and towing a trailer. The Vehicle itself is generally heavier due to the extra seats, soundproofing, frame, glass etc.

Plus you're appealing to a demographic.

Truck buyers know to go slow with loads and not to be retarded.

Soccer mom pulling the 5th wheel through the mountain passes? No so intelligent. Best put the V8 in there and let Daddy Warbucks deal with the gas money.

Hmmm, my brother showed me something on his ipad at Christmas. I'll have to ask him where he got it. Had a 4.6 in one of my Tundras, great engine. Would wake the Tacoma right up if the weight wasn't to high.

If the 4runner was getting the 4.6, the 4runner forum would have been all over that. Seeing as how no one had mentioned it, I find that piece of info hard to believe.

Agreed. OTOH, some folks think the throttle is an off/on switch. Thus they don't know how to use (or not use) the power available at the appropriate time.

With great power comes great responsibility. ...

Secondarily, if my Tacoma had come with a 4.6 V8 I wouldn't (maybe) be saving my pennies for the supercharger

If the Tacoma came with the 4.7 or 4.6 I wouldn't be looking to get rid of mine.

I loved my 4Runner with the 4.7, great combo that got better mileage than my 4.0 Tacoma.

thought they had a torque limiter that keeps the truck from using full torque until it reaches a certain speed.
