I'm surprised how many similar threads there are. To go on a site asking people if you should get a truck over one we clearly all chose. If we were to say yes that's clearly the better truck, we'd be driving that instead.
Same thing if you went on a ford website saying should I get rid of the truck nobody on here drives for the one everyone does here.

Always drive what YOU want, and be proud of your decision. :)

It was a Toyota Hilux they drove. Not tundra. But, please don't give up dependability for crap.

my bro in law has a 2013 eddie bower with the eco boost. I really like it... however, tons of electronics= tons of head aches down the line. at this point I want simple. my 2013 tacoma is analog in a digital world. no climate control. no turbo whistles= no problems down the line. modern trucks are like modern boats. the more toys they have= the more shit that breaks.

Do what you want and works for you OP, and to mirror what has already been said - don't ask here for advice, because people are going to be naturally biased. All the F150s in my family and those I know have been totally rock solid. As for me, I'm ordering my 2015 F150 King Ranch with the 5.0 next week to replace my 2009 Tacoma.

Facts are facts. You will regret the Ford purchase. Most people coming from Toyota to Ford end up with regrets. But hey, most people are too stupid to heed advice and have to learn the hard way.

Sorry, but that's not true. But we don't need to go over this more, and I don't know why you need to feel like you have to put down another person's purchase decision because it doesn't agree with yours. I love my Tacoma, but it doesn't meet my needs anymore and I need a bigger truck. In my experience, the F150 is the best overall half ton option.

And the facts are - Tacomas are not bulletproof or fault proof, just like any other vehicle.

I will absolutely miss the turning radius! There are other things about the Tacoma I will miss, but it's the right choice for me. And definitely pics when the new one comes in!

I've had 2 F150's, both for 10 years+ without any major issues. Number one thing to keep your vehicles running is maintenance just like anything else. I recently purchased a Tacoma and I love it. But i also loved my F150 and she served me well. The major reason I went with the Taco this time around is the size. I didnt NEED a big truck as I lived in the city and didnt tow much if anything at all. The taco is just right for me and my dog. If i had a family I would probably go bigger. Also, if you plan to off road, the taco wil do better in most trails since most trails are not wide enough to accommodate a full size truck. The new F150 are sexy as hell for sure. And the inside is luxury car like depending on the trim. One thing I was disappointed in the taco was that it has stayed relatively the same in 10yrs. I know the saying "if it ain't broke dont fix it" but in the vehicle world you always want to push technology and materials forward and not stay stagnant which i think the Taco has. There is a new taco coming out. Lets see if Toyota cares about it loyal fan base and really pushes this beautiful truck forward.

Agree on tires they're junk I'm running Cooper M&S studded now.
Otherwise don't know what to tell you, my F-150 sees off road 4-5 hours a day, between all my employees we have 16 of these and they're all same mileage. In fact the Eco Boost is avg only 1 MPG better then the V8s. I haven't towed with mine so that may be where the Eco shines in comparison. The interior bells and whistles are nice for the money on the F-150 there is no debating that, I'm just saying as far as a quality off road truck I'd take any of my Tundras back in a heartbeat the F-150 is not a good off road truck off the lot, it's likely however a great city truck is all.

All the well site operators down here use F150's. Our business has mostly F-150's in the lot for half tons. We've blown one 3.5L motor on 15 trucks, the Fords have proven to be very durable for us and we don't use them gently. We easily have over 2 million km's combined on our F150's. Mileage is anywhere from 15-22 mpg. If you have a heavy foot or want to offroad the Ecoboost 3.5L gets about the same mileage as any other V8 with similar power numbers. It takes gas to spin tires with the engine at 4000 rpms.

BTW a 5.7 L Tundra gets the shittiest mileage out of all the trucks on the market. Another location of our company was just force to dump all of theirs, including a new 2014, due to the exceptionally high costs to operate the truck. That power plant is old and the gearing is not optimal for fuel economy. My location will not allow us to buy Tundra's due to there high initial costs and high operational costs.

BTW run synthetic in the Ecoboost. Talking with other operations guys within my company it seems like the F150's that die young had conventional oil in them. It makes sense, there's a reason why 90% of manufactures that have high performance boosted motors require synthetic oil changes.

Not sure where all the hate for the F150's come from. I think if I were to jump into the full size I'd be heard pressed to get a tundra over the F150, or even the Ram for that matter.

At the end of the day, how shitty/unreliable can the F150 be , I mean they are selling 70K .. 70K a month, and in the heyday close to 100K a month.

It's a Toyota forum, what did you expect lol.

If anyone here seriously thinks a Tundra is the cheapest or best truck to run in a fleet you're not likely correct, considering the corporate lease and buying market is dominated by everything EXCEPT the Tundra.

Until the Tundra gets a new updated engine and transmission it's basically an 8 year old truck competing in a class where 4-5 years is now the norm for upgrading power train components.

I did the same thing with my 2007 F-150. I needed 4wd and something that fit in the garage. Comparing a Taco to F-150 is an apple-to-oranges comparison. If you need a full size truck for towing/hauling then the F-150 will be perfect. If you want to go offroad and do some light towing/hauling occasionally then the Taco will be perfect. I've spent years on F-150 and Jeep Wrangler forums and see the same complaints on this forum.

My buddy has the 3.5 L Eco Tec (2014 F150). Fuel pump died @ 8000 KM. Came home and had a recall on his seats.

Toyota should put a new engine in and keep last generations drive trains until the engine is proven then phase out the old power trains. That way they can offer new engines for those who want new engines and keep the old engines for reliability reasons. Also the new f-150 is on my list of full size trucks if I needed one. It is pretty impressive but I still love my Tacoma and I haveinvested too much into it to get rid of it now.

There is no 2.7 L motor in the 2014's... that's his problem ;)
