Moving to Colorado hopefully next year, those pics are cool as shit, but they sure make me want to move quicker! Nice work.

 

I have a $100 REI gift card and want to use it on a 2 burner car camping type stove. I've used Coleman's before and was pretty happy. I've been eying the camp chef ranger 2. I'd like to get a 5 pound propane tank rather than using the little bottles.

What else is being used out there and what do you think of them?

 

Is it true I heard that there is a way to fill up the smaller mobile stove bottles from a larger at home grill tank?

 

The adaptor is at bass pro or online somewhere. Turn the big tank upside down and be careful, as it effectively disables the safety poppet valve inside and makes them work like the old style that let's you release gas out to the air without having something connected. I filled up a dozen empty ones to probably 75% full the other day. Pays for itself quick!!

 

Also, with this adaptor and a hose, you can use it to hook up a big tank to a little camping stove or tent heater. I use mine to run a camp stove all night

That's pretty awesome! I never liked the little ones as you can't re use them. This changes things.

I still want a 5 pounder for a portable hot water heater as well as my stove though.

On Board Water?

I ran a heat exchanger through the engine for my water heater and shower.
If you don't want to go that route though, I'll sell you my Zodi propane shower for 100 bucks . I hard wired the battery pack to a cigarette plug so you don't have to lug batteries around.
Did my on board shower after that and now its just sitting on my shelf. Use the adaptor and a hose with big tank and you've got constant hot water with no batteries

 

I've refilled the one pound bottles using the Mr heater adapter from Amazon. I put the 1lb bottles in the kitchen freezer for 20 minutes and the 20 pound tank in the sun. I then perform the transfer, takes about 2 minutes, and I get excellent results. I weigh the bottles to see how much transfers. I get 90-100 percent rates. I do about 10 refills per bottle and then purchase new ones.

 

Possibly, but not for a few months at least. What model is it?

I don't think I'll need on board water. Although I say that now, who knows about later.

 

Got a Garmin eTrex 30 bundle gps for xmas! Time to have some fun with this little thing! I have a list of waypoints for the Red River Gorge but have never had a gps to get back to them!

Untitled4 by BabyTaco, on Flickrot quite camping but I set my tent up for a ice shelter today. First time pitching it on a lake and plan on doing it a lot more this winter! We are going again tomorrow and I am going to use the stove this time. I wouldnt mind spending ths night out on a high mountain lake in the future.

I stopped at a truck stop and wandered the aisles for a bit and found a whole 12V cooking section! Maybe I'm late to the party here but seeing 12V crock pots and popcorn machines and frying pans gave me all kinda of ideas for my camping / tailgating trailer build design. Has anyone used that stuff before? I always wonder with that China made stuff

 

It wasn't too bad out there. We started the day around -8 and with no wind it was easy to keep warm. It was a lot colder when it warmed up to 16 but had a light 10mph wind. That's when I set up the tipi . We got skunked sadly, as did most people out on the lake that day. We got a few trout the next day at a different lake though!

 

Agreed, that is some dedication there!!

 

Going up to Bryce Canyon and that general area in two weeks. Any camping suggestions? It will only be me.
