    Deadline extended until January 31st!!!

Yes everyone, it is back again! Time for me to give away another free 2nd gen wheel bearing assembly! Last time we had some decent success with the stories, so I want to do it again this time. There are some rules that I will this time stick with. You MUST follow the rules if you want to be considered.

    1. You must be the owner of a 2nd gen Tacoma (no friend or family)
    2. You must post your story here in this thread (No PM submissions)
    3. Your story MUST be in the perspective of your truck (Don't tell me how your truck deserves the bearing, let your truck tell me!)
    4. You are responsible for the shipping charges ($11 in US, $39 in CAN)
    5. All stories must be submitted by midnight eastern time, 31 January, 2015. No stories will be accepted after that time.
    6. Once a story is posted, you cannot edit your story, unless correcting grammar or typos. I will quote each story to keep this from happening as quickly as I read them.
    7. You may post ONE photo of your truck.
    8. Previous contest players may submit another story, but previous winners cannot win again.
So with the rules posted, this is what I am looking for:

Have your truck tell me, in their own words, why it deserves to get a free wheel bearing. They can tell me anything that they want, as long as it is family friendly (lol) and does not violate the COC of Tacomaworld. Be creative, imaginative, funny, or whatever you like. Just remember that this time the story needs to be from the TRUCK, not you. So go out to your driveway or into your garage and ask your truck why they deserve a free bearing!

When the 15th is gone, I will list all stories and the voting will begin by your fellow TW members!

Here goes... I had fun with this.

    Thanks for your consideration, Bill!

Those tremors immediately harkened the memories of going under the knife of a horrible mechanic just 6,000 miles ago – it was such a

terrifying experience. To this day, even just hearing the clattering sound of an air impact wrench still sends shudders throughout the

entirety of my steel frame. All in all, not a good experience. Much like a faithful dog that's been punished, I was left clueless as to why I

was treated so poorly. I'd been such a good truck all of my young life. Let me talk about happier times before I get myself too upset.

Rhode Island, 2010. I was raised by an older man, who treated me with the utmost care and maintenance – and I rewarded him with

faithful service. Back and forth to work and occasionally towing a skiff behind me, life was easy. That was just it, life was too easy. I'd

heard those adventure stories from my brothers and sisters – hell, my cousin went all the way to the Arctic Ocean! Yet, at the time, my

greatest claim to fame was climbing a gravel driveway and braving the occasional mud puddle. I felt lost and without a purpose! In 2010,

I was sold to my owner's son. Relieved that I was still in the family, yet completely unsure of what my future life would be. It was an

anxious time in my youth. Sure, there were those near-mythical tales that I'd heard from his old FJ60 – but, I'd always discounted them

as mere fabrications. That hulking blue behemoth had never really been totally coherent after he began to succumb to rust cancer

anyways. Little did I know that I was months away from an epic adventure.

One week later I was on the West Coast! Driving all 5,000 miles of highway without any injuries at all. Seeing Interstate-5 finally

appear, I was so incredibly proud. Witnessing those mountains and open spaces along the way, I was reminded about those stories I'd

heard from my cousins. It was all making sense, now. They weren't all lies! Northwest Washington State was nothing like New England,

life was exhilarating here. Almost every weekend, I'd fall asleep underneath the stars as I rested my drivetrain after a hard workout. I

    was hooked on adventure.

In fact, in 2011 he even brought me all the way to Kodiak Island, Alaska with him! It was quite unusual to travel over 2,200 miles of

nothing but snow and ice, but I got used to it within the first couple of days. I'll admit, there were a few points during the trip that scared

the crap out of me – but, now I feel like an accomplished adventurer.

Fast forward to 2013, back in Washington – life is good. I've finally got a nice shop to live in. Well, sometimes I get to sleep in there...

Still have an ongoing dispute with a welder and a plasma cutter that I need to settle... Got to see my original owner for the holidays,

even park in my original driveway back in Rhode Island! That was a memorable trip, made it from Washington to RI in 4 days, with only

one scary part in Wisconsin when I slipped on some ice. Just outside of Montana I started shaking – quite odd, really; but I knew what it

was right away. My front wheel bearings were starting to fail. I was quite torn up about the whole situation, but after 140,000 miles of

trouble free operation, I suppose I had done my best to keep them functioning. Luckily, I was able to make it back to Washington in one

    piece...

I got awfully excited when that NAPA bag was tossed in my passenger's seat. That kind of stuff usually means that I'm getting a new

part or accessory. My excitement was heightened even more when I saw the receipt for all of the parts, which – was well over $200. I

guess I'm worth it! Being an engineer and a captain on a fishing boat, my owner is really thorough when ever he works on me. Double

checking my fasteners and seals, replacing anything that's worn out – heck, even triple checking that everything is tightened correctly.

But, there was one part of the job that he couldn't do. Hours later, I knew something was deeply wrong when he entered the shop with

both new wheel bearings and my old hubs in his hands. I've grown to know him quite well over the years, and I'm not easily offended –

but the words he was yelling as he showed me the hub assemblies were quite profane. He proceeded to explain to me how the new seals

had been installed incorrectly in my new bearings, and showed me how bad the “mechanic's” work had been. Quite atrocious, really. My

owner went on to describe how he had even brought parts diagrams illustrating which seal was to be installed between the two bearings

    – and how the mechanic had argued with him about how the diagram was incorrect. Remembering it now, I was almost ashamed to even

look at how the new bearing faces were missing chunks of metal from how they were pressed in. But, we had a trip to make to Oregon

and the shoddy businessman refused to fix his work, so my owner was forced to install the new bearings.

I tried my best to keep myself together with my so-called new bearings, but that trip to Moab and those water crossings were the final

straw. It is pretty difficult to keep water out of precision parts when the wrong seal got installed, after all! Not that I'm bitter, it's not my

owner's fault. He took me places that I never would've even dreamed of going and pushed me to go on trails that I never even knew

existed. Truly incredible. But, on the way home I started shaking again – and it brings me back to the present. The convulsions and

groans are getting worse, and I'm getting ever more embarrassed. I've really got my fingers crossed that I'll be back to optimum

operating condition shortly, as I truly dislike not being able to be the truck that I was before any of this wheel bearing stuff nonsense

happened. Just adding to my embarrassment was the incident that happened a week or so ago. As my owner was replacing a seal on my

CV joint (which, it felt pretty darn good to get a new rubber on) – the seal on my passenger side wheel bearing fell apart! It was so bad

that I started to cry when that dirty Moab water seeped out from in between the bearings. I tried, I really did – but it's so hard to get a

good seal with that wrong part and the nicks in the hub and the bearing.

Sure, my owner did fabricate me a new headache rack for Christmas; and I really tried to make a smile as I felt the bolts on my bed

rails being tightened. But, it's really not what I wanted. Alas, something about money being short and other priorities... I'll do my best to

slog on through, but I really don't feel that this is the treatment that I deserve. Hopefully, some how, my story will get to the right people

    – and I'll be saved before it's too late. I'd hate to leave my owner stranded, but I'm afraid a few more months of these terrible shakes

and it'll be a sure thing.

Alright. That's all for now. Any more time using this HAM radio and my battery will be dead!

    Regards,

    Jake's Tacoma

Well step up to the keyboard and give it a try! You never know. Right now you would have a 50/50 shot! Hahaha.

I may need to extend the deadline so we can get more entries. If the first poster of a story doesn't mind...

All due respect, but when the first story is a grand slam such as was presented, there really is no reason to submit more stories, they will all fail...

Man, it's not that good! But thanks for those words, they really mean a lot to me.

I used I write about the commercial fishing industry; finally getting back into it. Sometimes when you can't find the time to do something, you have to make it...

I've got some stuff that's going to be published on the Expedition Portal website soon.

Well I'l give this a shot anyway :p. Be gentle everyone.

Well, here is my story. As most of my brothers I began mylife in the prison the leg walkers call “dealership”. Here, I spent my days hoping one of those leg walkers would get me and bring me back to my home, the bush. Well October of 2009 happened to be my lucky day, so I thought.

Fast forward, its 2011, and what I thought would be aliberation turned into a lower security prison. I spent the last 2 years stuck driving on the clean roads, hoping that one day I could be liberated like my fellow brothers wearing their tribal pinstripes with pride. I knew my one day would come, but this damn highschool legwalker was too afraid to bring me to my fullest potential.

2011 was an interesting year in the sense, that it was the exact same as 2010, however something happened when the snow fell. The leg walker took a drive to some foreign place that wasn’t familiar to me. I could feel he was tense, pucker factor they call it. But this was the day that that leg walker liberated me, as for the first time in my life, I was free. As the mud hit my tires, and the trees rubbed against my paint I knew there was a future of hope.

From there, good things began to happen. The leg walker saw my true calling and began to see the potential that I had. Though on a tight budget being a student of some kind, he did what he could, and I was appreciative of it all.

From the day I was liberated my weaknesses were seen, and work was done to get me to my full potential. I was constantly tested to ensure I could perform to do what I was born to do, “be a reliable work horse, that drops the panties of female leg walkers” as my leg walker suggested. I am not sure what this means but I constantly hear the leg walker speaking about it as my calling. I digress though. First little improvements beginning with tires, then to protection to keep me rolling strong in my natural environment, then the suspension. Every mod, thought out for the best bang for buck options, as my student liberator tries to keep me performing.

I write this for the owner who freed me, to help out in his quest to have a reliable panty dropping work horse, who may not have the funds to provide me with such things as elegant as high quality wheel bearings.

Though it may seem I’m doing this simply for me, I must insist, this frugal bastard of a leg walker got me to where I am with hard earned dollars in which I actually helped him make in some cases. As a repayment for some of the things, I hope to get him these wheel bearings to keep me up and running in order to take him on more adventures. Again, these adventures do bring me closer with my true calling, but also bring my leg walker closer to what he calls paradise. Perhaps the savings on these wheel bearings could warrant one of these adventure trips.

    Sincerely,
    Tacoma #16, liberated and freed

    End scene
