Name a date and I'll see what I can do to help. I definitely could return the favor, even if it's moral support.

In other news, I finally took the time to confirm one source of my popping. I need to put in new LCA ball joints. Hopefully it is the only place making noise.

Is there anyone up in this neck of the woods with a shop press? Dad's neighbor has one in Salem if I can't get to one locally.

How did you diagnose it was the LCA ball joints?

I'm not sure if it's the only thing wrong, but here's my process:

    • Trouble area seems to be from driver's side
    • Replaced inner tie rod due to alignment center's recommendation. Symptoms of that were as I described in an earlier post
    • Inspected outer tie rod, and guys here say it's OK. I'm not getting any play from that.
    • Took a 'visual' inspection of the LCA bushings, and those seem OK. I replaced them around 50k and probably didn't need to do it.
    • Took a visual inspection of the UCA bushings. I replaced those with poly, and they are still fresh. Grabbing and yanking on the UCA does nothing, which is good.
    • UCA ball joint could be going, but I had a late start yesterday and that's a more involved dis-assembly.
    • removed tire, removed the metal piece that attaches to the bottom of the ball joint (it's two bolts and a castle nut), and wiggled the joint. New joints will be very stiff, this one feels pretty loose. Not the worst I've seen, but it's time.
Beyond this, the only thing I can think of is motor mount, wheel bearing, or something with the strut

When I get time I'll post up a video of what a worn inner tie rod looks like, it's pretty funny :D

I really doubt it's a motor mount since you have an 08

I feel the same, not necessarily because of the year (trail damage don't give a damn :infantry:), but because it would be rattly all the time. I get a solid BANG feel, like something is twisting or other, and the steering does a slight shift. In addition to that, there's a bit of a popping on slow corners, but different from a CV I believe. CV would be all the time, this is only every now and then.

    Divide and conquer!

I have had the same thing happen ever since my new struts were put on. I feel it in the floor, just a pop but my steering doesn't move. That i've noticed at least.

Tru-Line in Bellevue did my alignment this week and dialed in some positive caster to help my rubbing problem. Then I had Mule do a cab mount chop. Finally, today I had 285/75/16 MT/R's installed.

I have my duratracs up on craigslist but I would go down in price for a tw member.

How much for your CMC? It looks like they're charging $95/hr. for shop labor...

You get those tires flipped yet? If not, I might have a second minor thing for you to do for me.
