king vs. icon vs. fox racing coilovers

Yeah I read that but wanted some feedback from real world use

 

Well, my dad has a ford raptor with Fox suspension, and they tend to salt the roads quite a bit up here due to the cold winters. When he went to put on his Kings (Which ride better IMO), there was some corrosion to the steel parts of the shocks. It wasn't terrible, but I think another winter or two would have done them in. Hope this helps!

 

Indeed... That's what I'm worried about. We have so much salt and sand here it's crazy! The worst I've seen anywhere. That's a big concern of mine.

 

I think i saw farther up in here you could give wrapping them a go? Other than that I think you'd be forced to go with something else from Fox, or a different brand if they're all made the same.

 

Fluid film. or clear coat or wax your shock bodies. Nothing you can do about the shafts.

 

Yeah, I think fluid film would help a lot. And if I bought the wraps with the icons it would be worth the $60 every two years or so... This is to give you an idea of what I'm dealing with 4-5 months out of the year... my truck is blue, not white...

 

does anyone use those Icon wraps? I have heard mixed reviews on them but would love to hear what people actually think about them. I was planning on spraying my coilovers with liquid wrench dry lube (not sure if this will prevent rust or not) because after spryaing part of them with fluid film about a month ago it attrachs so much dirt and crap that is stuck in the grease. Does dry lube prevent rust or is it just more for lubrication?

 

The fluid film will collect that stuff but it's still preventing it from getting to the coils. What's it do when you rinse it?

 

I use them. I have them on the truck from October to June. Shocks still look good 3 years later

 

interesting...may have to look into this. Did you wax or spary anything on the coilovers before putting them on?

 

I coat my Icons with this aviation mil spec corrosion X. They still look brand new. The threads on the shock body are still perfect.





I coat everything I possibly can reach with my hands including the rod. It collects a some dust after a while but it just takes a quick wipe down. It's still better than having an uncoated corroded coilover.

We ordered it off Amazon. I use this to coat parts on my truck that might rust or corrode and its been working. I use a q-tip to apply it on tight parts/areas. It's better than coating it with nothing.
