I have read so many threads about this that my eyes hate me and I think my brain is going on strike. I have a 2012 DCSB OR with an OME 3" lift. I want to run 285/75/16's. How much backspacing and offset will I need??

4.5" BS, offset depends on the width of wheel you run.

4.5" of BS would be ideal.

I'm guessing it would be a 16 x 8. Thanks for the quick answers and not giving me a thrashing.

someone can correct me if im wrong but.....the offset will depend on how far you want the wheel to stick out if at all. from what ive read a 0 offset on our trucks will have the wheel pretty even with the fender. so if you want a little more aggressive look than a -12mm offset will make the wheel/tire stick out about an inch past the fender. the factory TRD sport 17" wheel has a +30mm offset, if thats the wheel you have on yours, so they tuck inward slightly. not sure what the offsets are on the 16" factory wheels but i would imagine they are pretty close. also keep in mind....when you go negative offset you increase the the chances of it rubbing on the front fender and mudflaps since they stick out a little more.

When people start bashing it kinda makes the site look bad. I've done it before but I was in your shoes once so I understand.
    Sounds right.

I'm running 16" factory steelies (black) right now. I don't know the measurements on them. I am sure that a 285 will rub on the UCA though.

I believe if you run factory steelies you will have to run a 1.25" spacer to clear with 285's.

I am running Spidertrax on it right now. I have to get a state inspection this month and am not sure it will pass with spacers. Just looking at rims in case it fails. I kinda want new rims anyway.

What offset would I need to look for? I found a set of wheels with 4.5" backspacing.

    When I ran 285/75/16's on my '09 I had 16x8 with 4.5 backspace, 0 offset.

I don't know about West Virginia inspections, but my 4Runner has gone thru Vermont and Texas inspections with SpiderTrax on without any issues.

Offset and backspace go hand in hand when talking about a single wheel width. If your looking at a 8" wide wheel that has 4.5" backspace, then it is going to have 0mm offset. One is the result of the other, and vice versa.

I found several of the rims I want on the Summit website. They have sets with 5" backspace and +12 offset. Another with 4" backspace and 0 offset. Would this mean that a set with 4.5" backspace would be a +6 offset? These are all the same brand and model rim. All 16" too.

Backspacing and Offset don't always corilate. The width of the rim plays a factor. With 285's, a 4.5" BS is ideal. You'll clear your UCA's and typically will only need minor trimming. Less backspacing and you'll rub UCA's, more BS and you'll have to trim more. Make sense?

8" rim with 4.5" BS has 0 offset
8.5" rim with 4.5" BS has -6mm offset
9" rim with 4.5" BS has -12mm offset

If you choose a wheel with a smaller BS, you may require spacers IOT clear the UCA's.

I think I got it. I am trying to get away from spacers. I am hopefully going to take them off next week. I hope to order a set of the soft 8 type wheels.

That's why I said they go hand in hand with a single wheel width.

Can't really find a lot of choices for 4.5" bs and 0 offset in a 16 inch wheel. Maybe I should look for a 17"?

Hopefully one of these will work.

I think you may have gotten this reversed.

Less backspacing makes the wheel stick out further which would mean more trimming. More bs and you would be in the wheel well more and more likely to rub the UCA.
