So true. Been thinking about that. There are so many great contributors to this forum. Intelligent, funny, interesting. That part is a blast to read. I can try to learn to ignore other stuff that's brain-dead or crawls out of the woodwork. But yeah, it's going to be tough.

I think Glen Cambell said it best in the movie True Grit "When you have bested a fool you have accomplished no great feat." In other words you can fight every troll on the internet and all you will get is tired.

Just drove my moms stock '08 all around Breckenridge this week and the abs performed flawlessly. Definitely experienced nothing like what's been described in this thread. I even did a few test abs stops on downhill ice sections and had no trouble, abs kicked in and brought the truck to a stop. :notsure:

I had to go back a few pages. Are you talking about the post way back #926?!? When I wrote that, I honestly did think that you were trolling. Ok. The caps were a bit too much. Shouldn't have done that. I am still wondering about the trolling?

Why, of course. I shall aspire to be as polite as you and to develop your wonderful attitude. You are a shining example.

Yes, for all that is right and good, let's get this thread back to ABS.

Do you know if it will negatively affect insurance?

It would be sweet to turn if off automatically below perhaps 10mph?

I'm worried that heavy issues like manslaughter could be involved if someone dies in an accident, and investigators get curious about why the skid marks were solid?

ABS seems like a good thing at high speed. I personally feel the problem with it is at low speed on snow and ice, particularly down hill?

At low speed on snow, maybe it's best to let the ABS do its stupid thing, let the truck slide into a ditch (instead of an intersection or the car in front), call the insurance company, go home and pour a beer?

My advice is if you have never had a problem with your ABS brakes, let them alone and don't worry about it. Not all Tacomas have this problem. If you want put a switch on it to shut off while off roading or whatever. If you have had the "OH SHOOT ABS ON MY TRUCK IS TRYING TO FN KILL ME!!!" moments by all means turn it off. I will be honest with you if there had been no way to turn off my ABS, my 8 month old truck with only 6500 miles would have been for sale at the Chevy dealer because I would never want to drive a Toyota again. My ABS has been off for over 2 years now and I have never been scared once in that time. God bless and drive safely.

It's not new, it's not Mexico
Some common themes in this thread:
    slippery driving surfaces,
excess speed for the driving conditions,
    inadequate tires,
    unfamiliarity with the ABS,
improper application of the ABS equipped brakes,
    last but not least,
blaming the ABS for the drivers mistakes.

It's only one of my secret super powers.

    For example, watch this ....

To the previous poster ... Some drivers might blame ABS for their mistakes. But, no, not all do. That's not the issue.

    How was that?

    I hate ABS!
Where i drive in pa Esp. during the winter it is extremely unsafe.
I pull the abs breaker. At the least pull the breaker during the winter & while driving off-road.
If u r worried about insurance, get a breaker from the junkyard, break off a couple tabs, replace, & no one will know it has been de-activated.

You forgot to mention the other common thing to this thread. TROLLS. The people who have nothing useful to add and just criticize other people.

I just found this post,I thought it was me! I pulled the fuse on my 2005 about 3 years ago after way to many close calls. Sometimes it would kick in with dry roads, now with it disconnected I feel way safer!

Yea my abs was very unpredictable. Any time it snowed it would act up at least once. Pulling up to a stop sign at about 10 mph and then suddenly the abs would freak out and I would lose all braking pressure and I would not be able to stop until I was 3/4 of the way through the intersection. Good thing no one was in my way.
