Been dealing with a driveline vibration for about a year and I wanted to stay away from axle shims but why the hell did I do that. I have dakar leafs and an add a leaf to the pack. I tried the carrier bearing drop with spacers and that helped but did not relieve completely. I added the 3 degree shim to the axle that toytec supplies and Im a happy camper. Just thought I would share if anyone is on the fence about axle shims.

Did you install thin end forward or reverse ?

Thin end towards the driver side and thick end towards the rear. I looked over this many times on the forum before I installed. I also put in that pin that you have talked about;( toytec actually provides them now to) the one that goes into the axle that makes it longer. Worked like a charm :D

    cool

I have the 3 degree shim installed too , but I may need to revisit the driveline angles thread cause it seems to be pushing me pinion high with my regular load and cap , although I may add the d29xl AAL first and see what effect that has

You used the slide in style shim or the pin through shim style ?

I ordered the pin through shims but they sent me the slide in style shim and it worked really good. Install took about 1 hr per side. I replaced the center pins and made sure everything was flush before tightening down.

Can you send me the link for the collars so I can make sure we are talking about the same thing. They are the things that extend the center bolt that drops into the axle right?

Do you know where to buy longer u bolts for a flip kit? I need longer U bolts. The ones I have go about 1 thread about the nut and I need more assurance.

I had my local spring shop make custom U bolts for me but I'm pretty sure Toytec and all the regular vendors on here offer them

Thats exactly what I put on! I actually put the ones I bought plus the ones toytec had for a flush fit. Seems Toytec has been taking notes.

I need longer u bolts but I dont want to buy the entire flip kit. I believe all the vendors just sell them in the kit.

When or where did you have the vibration? Was it on take off only, or was it at a steady cruise all the time?

Vibrations were at a take off and around 60mph. Thought about getting a one piece and then I put the shim in and made a huge difference

Glad to see you made progress with your vibration issue! I'm learning more n more each day about these darn vibes. I did the OME 885 coils with Dakar leafs and put the 3* shims in right off the bat, very happy but here's what happened to me. No more of the 25 mph vibe that it had from the factory, No highway vibration, but now a take off vibe. I think I'll try the combination of cb drop along with the shims like you did and see if that combo works!!

    :)

    Update:

I played around with the carrier bearing yesterday and it seems to work better without the carrier bearing. Maybe its just me but it seems silky smooth without the cb drop and just the 3 degree axle shims

Are these 3* shims only needed for 4x4 applications? or does this work for pre runners with a rear end lift too?

without doing all of the calculations on angles from the other threads, would it be a good idea to try these 3* shims from a pre runner with TSB+Toytec 1.5 AAL (vibes around 25-30mph)? Isn't there 1.5* as well? pics or thread on how to correctly orient them?
