I'll put this here as I'm on my phone and the app is not letting me find the subforums. I heard from a good source that the new Tacoma will have an available 8 speed trans. My source is my sons uncle who is an engineer for Toyota at the engine plant in WV. I asked what it will look like and he said is isn't completely sure but a lot like the new tundras.

Let me clarify further,I'm divorced so I don't call him my brother in law, as her sister and her were never close, but they always treated my son very well.

I'm thinking...they narrowed their headlights, changed the grill...plus the tacoma stamp on the back.... It's going to be more like the tundra? Maybe becoming closer to a full size truck? Purely speculation of course but if you think about the old mid size trucks that couldn't compare to the size of the mid-size trucks today it would only be natural to get bigger, so maybe the smaller 4.6 tundra engine or a s/c or turbo-charged 4.0L or smaller engine like a 3.6.

My source said he thinks the engine is still the 4.0, might squeeze a little more power out of it. But with the 8 speed tranny more power couldn't hurt to much.

Well I think Toyota been sitting on this waiting to realise it, tbh I think whether the Colorado came out or not this was coming. And in reference to it being said it is a Colorado in Toyota clothes, had the Tacoma came out first would you go to the Colorado forum and say it was a Tacoma in Chevy clothes?

Having extensively test driven the 2015 Tacoma and compared it to the 2015 Canyon and Colorado, my impression is that GM is trying really hard to "out Tacoma the Tacoma." The lack of a regular cab, limited options on manual transmission (extended cab, I4, 2WD only), heavy aftermarket parts selection, and massive marketing emphasis on "better mileage than Tacoma" only proves that GM isn't the market leader here but really wants to be. Wish in one hand, crap in the other...

For the most park, no matter what Toyota does to the 2016 Tacoma GM is going to react to it. The only thing Toyota could do in reaction to GM is to provide an alternative to the 2.6 Duramax diesel that GM has promised for the 2016 Colorado/Canyon.

I liked the Canyon - quiet, relatively responsive, and almost comfortable. There've been a lot of manufacturing snafus, though. Unless GM gets its act together quickly, Toyota won't have to work very hard recapturing the lead in the mid-sized truck segment before the 2016 even becomes available.

Engine sound? What do people think? Is that the same old V6 4.0 with a new exhaust or does this sound like something brand spanking new.....I really hope its new.

That's what makes me think it's the smaller tundra engine. Gosh I hope it's a new engine :D
